4. 4 Activities undertaken and planned FAO conducted a training workshop on its open source GeoNetwork portal and related open source geospatial cataloguing software. A day-long “ESA-FAO-JRC Workshop on "Catalogue/Discovery Standardization" was also held to develop a common understanding on common interoperability issues and goals.

5. 5 Activities, continued At the Global Spatial Data Infrastructure (GSDI- 9) Conference in November 2006 in Santiago, Chile, a standards workshop is planned to document the current state of standards that support inventory and access A finding and recommendations paper is suggested as a result of this workshop to identify the use cases and system architecture for a common discovery capability – and the services, data, and metadata required. Engage one or more Societal Benefit Areas to nominate and engage data content/services to be catalogued

6. 6 Issues Significant overlap with this task and DA-06-06 (SDI and base data) and suggest full consolidation with it as soon as possible The outcome of this task is also achieved through AR-06-05 (Clearinghouse) that implements catalogues with metadata on data Results also feeds into DA-06-07 (Web Portal, Registries, and Clearinghouse).
