Worldspan formed The roots of Travelport’s GDS brands, Galileo and Worldspan, grew out of the growing need for Computer Reservation System automation and the development of airline reservation systems that enabled interactive travel buying and selling of air travel. Originally Galileo was owned/founded by a consortium of 11 airlines (3 North American and 8 European) and went public on the NYSE in 1997. Worldspan was originally founded in 1990 by Delta Air Lines, Northwest Airlines and Trans World Airlines, sold to a private equity group, and then acquired by Travelport in 2007. Today, the Galileo and Worldspan global distribution systems still remain the most comprehensive and technologically advanced conduits for distributing and purchasing travel and travel-related services worldwide. 5 Travelport GDS global operations
Travelport Overview Travelport GDS global operations Travelport operates a mix of owned in-country operations and distributors covering 160 countries Travelport operates in approximately 160 countries and has development capabilities on multiple continents to serve the localised needs of our customers. Headquarters are located in Langley, UK with sales, service and support offices located in more than 40 countries. Our geographical reach and robust content are two reasons we’re the world’s leading provider of informed travel choice. The global footprint of a GDS is a vital element in its usefulness to both the agency and to the supplier community. A travel supplier may have a high degree of discretion in terms of channels it uses to market at home. For most of them however, distribution is a lot more challenging and costly outside their home markets. This is where the GDS adds most value. The fact that Travelport provides its services in 160 countries is valuable, not only to suppliers seeking to sell their product, but also to major corporations and Travel Management Companies (TMC) or Online Travel Agencies (OTA) who wish to provide consistent technology and user experiences in more than one country. 84% of Travelport GDS business by volume comes from wholly owned operations. The remainder comes from businesses operated under long term distributor contracts. Our business is geographically split as follows: Americas – 49% Europe – 24% Middle East & Africa – 14% APAC – 13% Notes to Chart Legend: Remote Service refers to countries where operations are run out of neighbouring or nearby markets [Source: GW Masters Conference Speech] Travelport sales office Distribution partner Remote service No operations Travelport Confidential
