1 Hover the mouse over the regions of the spine, to see its name, and the number of vertebrae for each section.

2 Cervical 7 Vertebrae This supports the weight of the head. The top two vertebrae allow the head to move up and down and side to side.

3 Hover the mouse over the regions of the spine, to see its name, and the number of vertebrae for each section. Thoracic 12 Vertebrae The ribs attach to these. They form part of the rib cage and help to protect the heart and lungs

They support a lot of body weight and provide a place for muscles to attach. This part of the vertebrae allows the body to move forwards and backwards and from side to side.
