2 The Introduction home page gives you a brief overview of the steps involved in obtaining a work placement on GRVEC’s Placement Web Portal. Please read the steps carefully and click on ‘Get Started!’ to begin. Please note that if you are looking for placements from home, you cannot complete the last step which is the application form. Only a registered teacher can submit the form for you. Students have ‘read- only’ access to all placements.

3 Search page 1. Choose the type of placement you are looking for 2. Use the drop down box to pick an industry you are interested in 3. Make sure you list when you are able to go out on work placement 4. Select which suburbs you can travel to for your work placement 5. Hit ‘Search’ 1 2 3 4 5

4 Here is an example for you: This student is looking for a VCAL placement (1) He/she is wanting to do an Administration placement (2) He/she is available on a Friday to work (3) He/she can travel to the central Geelong area only (4) 1 1 2 2 3 3 4 4

5 This student is looking for a VCAL placement (1) He/she is open to any industry (2). By selecting this option all jobs on the portal will come up that meet your other search requirements He/she is available to do a work placement on a Thur or Fri (3). The search will only bring up placements that have listed they can take a student on a Thur or Fri. He/she has selected all postcodes (4). The search will look at all suburbs in Geelong. 1 1 2 2 3 3 4 4

6 Example: This student is looking for a VCAL placement (1) He/she is open to any industry (2). By selecting this option all jobs on the portal will come up that meet your other search requirements He/she is available to do a work placement any time (3). The search will bring up every placement available (one-day a week and week blocks) He/she has selected the postcodes 3218 & 3220 (4). The search will look for any placements in those two postcode areas only. 1 1 2 2 3 3 4 4

7 The results from the example 1 search. This page will list all the opportunities that match your criteria. Click on the job title to see more information regarding that particular opportunity. If none of the jobs appeal to you, hit the ‘Go back’ button to start another search. You may want to expand your search criteria to see what else comes up

8 Once you click on to a job title from the interest list, you will be given further details on that particular opportunity Job Title Suburb Availability (day of the week, week block, time of year and how many days the job is for) Duties Requirements A description of the employer Opportunity id * From this screen you can click on the ‘Apply for this opportunity’ button to bring up the application form. * If you are viewing this job away from school and would like to apply for the position, please note down the id number so you can refer to it when you are back at school Friday placement Week block placement

9 To go back and look at a position that you are interested in applying for, simply enter the opportunity id number. This will bring up the Opportunity Details page of the position without having to conduct another search. If you and your teacher feel this placement suits your needs, you can then go on to apply for it. Remember, only teachers can submit the application form for you.

10 By putting in the Opportunity id number of ‘11877’ on the search page, you will go directly to the opportunities page for that particular placement. From here you can click on the job to find out further information and apply for the position if it is suitable.

11 To apply for a placement you must complete the online application form. This form is reached through the Opportunity Details screen, where you have viewed the actual details of the job you are interested in. Please note, only registered teachers with GRVEC are able to submit the form once you have filled it out. You are required to answer all questions and to read the information on the form. Teachers, please feel free to provide additional information on the student that might assist us in securing the placement.

12 Here is an example of the online form fully completed and ready to be submitted by the teacher. TIP – Always check that the position named at the top of the page is actually the position you would like to apply for.

13 Once an application has been submitted a summary screen will appear. We recommend you print a copy of this screen for your records.

14 GRVEC:  receives the application form  contacts the employer that the placement is linked to  checks if the employer is still able to proceed with the placement (we will contact the school if the placement is no longer available, so you can search again for a new placement)  emails the teacher/school the employer’s contact details once the placement is confirmed  emails the employer all of your school/student details
