Recognition that in Whitletts PS: Good standard of education provided – more to school than a building Teachers and other staff held in high regard School is the heart of the community - school receives good support and commitment from local community South Ayrshire Council: Department of Education, Culture and Lifelong Learning

5 Fundamental Review of the School Estate Area proposals - Prestwick and surrounding area - Troon and surrounding area - Ayr and surrounding area - Maybole and surrounding area - Girvan and surrounding area Suitability and Condition ratings Category 1 - existing provision to be reviewed further Category 2 – existing provision to be considered for modernisation Lead Officers/Support Officers identified Further reviews underway South Ayrshire Council: Department of Education, Culture and Lifelong Learning

6 Fundamental Review of the School Estate Better Buildings – Better Learning – Better Futures A Learning Centre for the 21 st Century Strategic Plan for the school estate (10 years ahead) Secure funding through Council approval South Ayrshire Council: Department of Education, Culture and Lifelong Learning

7 Whitletts Primary School: Issues identified from 16th Jan  Poor layout - 3 separate buildings resulting in issues around security for 3 buildings, repairs to 3 buildings and movement between 3 buildings.  Not in good state of repair  Lack of suitable grass areas for playing  Classrooms/teaching areas not suitable for learning in 21 st century  Toilets – poor  No nursery provision

8 Whitletts Primary School: Issues identified  Problems with layout of playground  No reception area  Full school needs modernised  School on main road – safety?  Leaking roofs in all 3 buildings– dampness brought on by leaks  Problems with litter/vandalism due to through way

9 Whitletts Primary School: Issues identified Location  Lack of storage  Parking  Food imported from other schools  Costs of maintenance  Draughty windows  Poor heating system

10 Identified for further consideration  Implications of new build on Braehead Primary  Lack of secondary school in North Ayr  New secondary school (to replace current Ayr Academy) should be located in North Ayr

11 Whitletts Primary School Options for further discussion Improve existing school Transferring pupils to Braehead and Dalmilling Build new Whitletts PS Join with Braehead PS in new school in North Ayr.

12 Whitletts Primary School Workshop groups explore advantages and disadvantages of each option. Feedback
