The institution of IMC was initially founded in 1990, on a pilot basis (as a secretariat), in agreement with the commission and the government. It operated at SEV premises and managed the following two projects: MOP for the private sector (IT) STAR program (communications) INTERMEDIARY MNGT COMPANIES A PILOT APPROACH TO THE IDEA HELLENIC DEVELOPMENT COMPANY

After a two-year successful operation of the pilot IMC at SEV, the state decided to officially establish the institution of IMCs and covered their operation with two presidential decrees (P.Ds). According to those two P.Ds, IMCs have to be: either public sector IMC companies, mainly intended for the management of public sector projects, or civil non-profit private sector IMC companies, mainly intended for the management of private sector projects INTERMEDIARY MNGT COMPANIES OFFICIAL FOUNDATION HELLENIC DEVELOPMENT COMPANY

During the 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd CSFs, IMCs in Greece: responded to demands/proved to be very efficient developed special skills, and gained significant experience in the management of EC programs – Thus, the Greek state seems to incline to continue taking advantage of the IMC services during the 4 th CSF as well, but at an upgraded level.
