9 GENERATING CLEAN ELECTRONS INTRODUCTORY GREEN TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM The GT-1500 Clean Electron Generation Panel provides students an introductory hands-on interactive experience with the 3 leading sources of alternative energy generation technologies. Wind Power Installing and testing a wind turbine. Configuring and testing off-grid installations. Design/create a wind turbine power system. Solar Power Installing, combining and testing solar panels. Configuring, testing and operating off-grid solar installations. Design/create a solar charging system for portable hand-held devices. Fuel Cells Connecting a fuel cell for electrical generation Configuring, testing and operating off-grid fuel cell installations Combining Wind and Solar Power Systems Configuring and testing combined alternative energy systems for off-grid operations. Connecting a fuel cell into alternative energy systems for off-grid operations.

10 SUSTAINABLE CONSERVATION INTRODUCTORY GREEN TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM The GT-2500 Sustainable Conservation Technology Panel provides students an introductory hands-on interactive experience with multiple energy design, monitoring and auditing processes and technologies Energy Auditing Measure electrical consumption of devices and electrical loads in residential & commercial buildings. Measure lighting loads and implement power saving options for various structures. Evaluate insulation values associated with different common insulation materials. Environmental Monitoring Use a portable datalogger to gather environmental data for analysis. Evaluate the insulating qualities of soil and water. Employ a humidity sensor to record humidity levels. Measure and chart temperature changes in various areas of a structure as heat levels and insulation materials change. Sustainable Architecture Determine structural components of residential and commercial buildings affect on energy consumption. Use Computer Aided Drafting & Design software to plan sustainable residential & commercial structures. Use heating/cooling techniques associated with solar lighting and window placement Green Structure Design Design and create a residential structure using green technology and applying LEEDS standards.

11 Building Codes and Compliance National Electrical Codes EPA OSHA National Fire Protection Association Understanding Blueprints Schematic drawings Working drawings Symbols and scaling Prepare students for portions of the RESNET Certification! Sustainable Architecture What is green? History of fossil fuels Sustainable architecture Residential and Commercial Structures Foundations, walls, roofs and attics Energy and Power Types of energy Potential and kinetic energy Voltage and current Electrical loads Electrical power consumption Power math Making electrical connections Energy and Conservation Energy Audits Insulation, windows and ventilation Lighting Hot water heaters Passive Solar Systems Lighting, heating and cooling Green Building Resource-conscious design concepts Sustainable construction terminology Green building certification LEED Green design considerations ENERGY AUDITING CERTIFICATION

12 Summary Implementation – Spring 2013 Course Names – ELEC 290V Electronics: Special Topics – PRFS 490 V Special Topics – Either one can be modified to offer any of the mentioned classes Enrollment Expectation – 12 students per class section Portable Flexibility – GREEN Mobile addition for training other 2/4 year programs across the state (hands-on labs) – Distance Learning available for lecture/discussion
