2 Sustainable Nations PennElys GoodShield is our technical partner and is available to assist you with strategic planning for your environmentally sustainable projects. PennElys’s expertise is very broad and deep in most areas of sustainable project development. If she does not have the knowledge or resources to help you, she can work to find them.

3 SN Strategic Planning Identifying your physical and personal resources Planning technical aspects of your projects Creating budgets for projects Creating realistic timelines for accomplishing projects Being available for consulting for the duration of the work

4 SN Technical Assistance SN offers workshops and training for staff and youth in their areas of expertise. They could include: 1. A Comprehensive five - day ‘Green Technology’ Training, designed at a level you choose. W orkshop allows for participation of the youth for the duration of the training. An important component is to leave youth with follow up information describing how and where they can pursue more education and/or a career in various fields. We acknowledge that job creation on the reservations in a community-serving and environmentally appropriate manner is key in keeping our youth out of trouble, and we can offer this type of supplementary education and exposure to our youth in our programs.

5 SN Technical Assistance 2. Basic Energy Efficiency/Energy Auditor Training Timeframe: 5 Days Students will be presented with a certificate upon successful completion. This module is designed to cover: Residential energy uses and loss Assessment procedure, observations, techniques and identifying goals Client interviews, communication and observational inspections The house as a system – interactive effects The what, why, and how much of diagnostic testing equipment

6 SN Technical Assistance 2. Basic Energy Efficiency/Energy Auditor Training, cont’d. By the end of the module, students will be certified to perform: Identify, Quantify and Report Energy Losses Inspection, Observational, Assessment, Client interview, Testing equipment, Write and present the report.

7 SN Technical Assistance 3. Rainwater Harvesting/Graywater System Design Timeframe: 5 Days Students will be presented with a certificate upon successful completion This training module covers water harvesting principles and techniques, and graywater system design.

8 SN Technical Assistance Rainwater Harvesting/Graywater System Design, cont’d. By the end of the module, students will be able to: Analyze sites for water harvesting potential Apply key water harvesting principles Design and implement basic water harvesting systems Describe the principles of graywater, it’s use, and basic principles. Design and implement a basic graywater system.

9 SN Technical Assistance 4. Native Permaculture Time frame: 5 Days Students will be presented with a certificate upon successful completion This module covers contemporary permaculture design principles, career options in ecological design, and reflection on the modeling of these designs from traditional Native technologies.

10 SN Technical Assistance Native Permaculture, cont’d. Students will be able to explain and understand the concept of integrated design, and its relevance to culture and community development. Students will be able to design an integrated permacultural landscape Students will participate in various hands-on activities related to permacultural design. (This is TBD by the Grantee.)

11 SN Technical Assistance 5. Renewable Energy Basics Timeframe: 5 days Students will receive a certificate upon successful completion This course covers the basics of electricity, what it is, how it is produced, and the impacts conventional energy production has had on our environment, focusing on impacts in Indian Country.

12 SN Technical Assistance Renewable Energy Basics, cont’d. Students will learn basic information on: Photovoltaics (Solar Electricity) Wind Energy Micro-hydroelectricity Basic overview of other renewable energy technologies.

13 SN Technical Assistance Renewable Energy Basics, cont’d. Energy Efficiency Principles and Practice Basic Photovoltaic (possibly wind, if instructor available) System Design Site evaluation Vocabulary: Voltage, Amperage, electrical terminology Working with Batteries – Safety Precautions Hands-on Workshops with PV panels and wiring
