5 Activities and Programs
Recognize and promote excellence in research Outstanding Young Researcher Award Publish Newsletters regularly Promote and facilitate Korean Physicist Symposia at specialized conferences, e.g., American Physical Society (APS) division meetings, American Geophysical Union (AGU), American Astronomical Society (AAS) meetings, etc. Organize various regional activities, e.g., public lectures for local Korean-American communities Collaborate with other Korean-American and Korean organizations, such as Korean Scientists and Engineers Association (KSEA) and Korean Physical Society (KPS) Collaborate with American Physical Society, e.g., Forum on International Physics AKPA

6 Outstanding Young Researcher Award (OYRA)
AKPA recognizes outstanding young researchers early on in their careers through the OYRA. Awarded every year to one or two outstanding young (< 5 yr after Ph.D.) Korean physicists in North America since 1994. in a rigorous selection process $1,500 cash award Many OYRA awardees play important roles in Korea and the United States. Two winners of OYRA 2012 will be selected in January 2012. The Korean Physical Society (KPS) will sponsor one of the two awards. 9 Cooperation with American Physical Society
Korean Physicist Symposium was held as a Satellite meeting of the 53rd Annual Meeting of the APS Division of Plasma Physics (DPP), Salt Lake City, Utah, November 15, 2011. AKPA

10 Cooperation with Korean Physical Society
KPS will sponsor one of the two OYRA 2012 awards. AKPA-KPS joint workshop, “US-Korea Workshop: International Cooperation on Particle, Nuclear and Astrophysics Research,” is being organized as part of the KPS 60th Anniversary Celebration, which will be held in Daejeon, Korea, April , 2012. AKPA to help collaboration between KPS and APS. The APS President Bob Byer will meet the KPS President in Korea in February 2012. 11 Cooperation with Korean Scientists and Engineers Association
AKPA organized a Physics (Technical Group A of KSEA) Session and a forum on Rare Isotope Beam Accelerator for the US-Korea Conference on Science, Technology and Entrepreneurship (UKC 2011), which was held in Park City, Utah, August 10-14, 2011. AKPA will launch the National High School Physics Contest to promote an interest in physics for high school students and to identify potential students who will be successful in physics. As a pilot program, a set of physics problems will be prepared for two KSEA Chapters, North Texas and North Carolina, during the National Mathematics & Science Competition (NMSC 2012). AKPA

13 AKPA Membership Lifetime Members
The number of members registered on the list is over 500. The paid AKPA-KSEA members in 2011 increased by a factor of two compared to 2010. Join both KSEA and AKPA by selecting “AKPA” as your Affiliated Professional Society (APS) on the KSEA web site. Your regular membership fee is not sufficient to cover the expenses of all our activities but the number of members is an important factor for external funding.
