To serve the community to promote continued advancement in physics and related areas, and to promote close networking of Korean physicists. –Technical Excellence –US-Korea Cooperation –Professional Networking –Career Development –Community Service. –. – (, Canada ). – Mission & Vision AKPA 4
Activities and Programs Recognize and promote excellence in research –Outstanding Young Researcher Award Publish Newsletters regularly Promote and facilitate Korean Physicist Symposia at specialized conferences, e.g., –American Physical Society (APS) division meetings, American Geophysical Union (AGU), American Astronomical Society (AAS) meetings, etc. Organize various regional activities, e.g., public lectures for local Korean-American communities Collaborate with other Korean-American and Korean organizations, such as Korean Scientists and Engineers Association (KSEA) and Korean Physical Society (KPS) Collaborate with American Physical Society, e.g., Forum on International Physics AKPA5
Outstanding Young Researcher Award (OYRA) AKPA recognizes outstanding young researchers early on in their careers through the OYRA. Awarded every year to one or two outstanding young (< 5 yr after Ph.D.) Korean physicists in North America since – in a rigorous selection process –$1,500 cash award Many OYRA awardees play important roles in Korea and the United States. Two winners of OYRA 2012 will be selected in January –The Korean Physical Society (KPS) will sponsor one of the two awards. AKPA6
AKPA Newsletters Newsletters help us stand closer to the community. Newsletters play an important role in building a strong organization. Currently published quarterly – Member News – Science and Technology News – Scholarship and Education News – 2 – 3 featured research articles – Awards and opportunities – Upcoming meeting announcements AKPA7

AKPA Membership The number of members registered on the list is over 500. The paid AKPA-KSEA members in 2011 increased by a factor of two compared to Join both KSEA and AKPA by selecting AKPA as your Affiliated Professional Society (APS) on the KSEA web site. Your regular membership fee is not sufficient to cover the expenses of all our activities but the number of members is an important factor for external funding.
