1 Coding heroes This is a document containing important individuals in the history of computing and it details the important contributions they have made to society. I have added an equal amount of female and male representatives to the list and below is a picture of how I have used the display in my room.

2 Alan Turing Alan Mathison Turing OBE FRS was an English computer scientist, mathematician, logician, cryptanalyst, philosopher, and theoretical biologist.

3 Tim Berners-Lee Sir Timothy John Berners-Lee OM KBE FRS FREng FRSA FBCS, also known as TimBL, is an English engineer and computer scientist, best known as the inventor of the World Wide Web

4 Grace Hopper Grace Brewster Murray Hopper was an American computer scientist and United States Navy rear admiral. 

5 Dennis Ritchie Dennis MacAlistair Ritchie was an American computer scientist. He created the C programming language and, with long-time colleague Ken Thompson, the Unix operating system.

6 Ada Lovelace Augusta Ada King-Noel, Countess of Lovelace was an English mathematician and writer, chiefly known for her work on Charles Babbage's proposed mechanical general-purpose computer, the Analytical Engine.

8 Vint Cerf Vinton Gray Cerf ForMemRS, is an American Internet pioneer, who is recognized as one of "the fathers of the Internet", sharing this title with TCP/IP co-inventor Bob Kahn. 

9 Larry Page Lawrence Edward Page is an American computer scientist and Internet entrepreneur who co- founded Google with Sergey Brin. Page is the chief executive officer of Google's parent company, Alphabet Inc.

10 Sergey Brin Sergey Mikhaylovich Brin is a Russian- born American computer scientist and internet entrepreneur. Together with Larry Page, he co-founded Google. Brin is the President of Google's parent company Alphabet Inc.

11 Barbara Liskov Barbara Liskov is an American computer scientist who is an Institute Professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Ford Professor of Engineering in its School of Engineering's electrical engineering and computer science department.

12 John McCarthy John McCarthy was an American computer scientist and cognitive scientist. McCarthy was one of the founders of the discipline of artificial intelligence. 

13 Edgar F. Codd Edgar Frank "Ted" Codd was an English computer scientist who, while working for IBM, invented the relational model for database management, the theoretical basis for relational databases and relational database management systems.

14 Mark Zuckerberg Mark Elliot Zuckerberg is an American computer programmer and Internet entrepreneur. He is a co-founder of Facebook, and currently operates as its chairman and chief executive officer.

15 Edgar F. Codd Edgar Frank "Ted" Codd was an English computer scientist who, while working for IBM, invented the relational model for database management, the theoretical basis for relational databases and relational database management systems.

16 Stephen Wozniak Stephen Gary Wozniak, often referred to by the nickname "Woz", is an American inventor, electronics engineer, programmer, philanthropist, and technology entrepreneur who co- founded Apple Computer, Inc.

17 Frances Allen Frances Elizabeth "Fran" Allen is an American computer scientist and pioneer in the field of optimizing compilers. Her achievements include seminal work in compilers, code optimization, and parallelization.

18 Jean E. Sammet Jean E. Sammet was an American computer scientist who developed the FORMAC programming language in She was also one of the developers of the influential COBOL programming language.

19 Jean Bartik Jean Jennings Bartik was one of the original programmers for the ENIAC computer. She studied mathematics in school then began work at the University of Pennsylvania, first manually calculating ballistics trajectories, then using ENIAC to do so.

20 Betty Holberton Frances Elizabeth "Betty" Holberton was one of the six original programmers of ENIAC, the first general-purpose electronic digital computer, and was the inventor of breakpoints in computer debugging.

21 Radia Perlman Radia Joy Perlman is an American software designer and network engineer. She is most famous for her invention of the spanning-tree protocol, which is fundamental to the operation of network bridges, while working for Digital Equipment Corporation.

22 Kathleen Booth Kathleen Booth née Britten wrote the first assembly language and designed the assembler and autocode for the first computer systems at Birkbeck College, University of London.

23 Anita Borg Anita Borg was an American computer scientist. She founded the Institute for Women and Technology and the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing. 

24 Kathleen Antonelli Kathleen "Kay" McNulty Mauchly Antonelli was an American computer programmer and one of the six original programmers of the ENIAC, the first general-purpose electronic digital computer.

25 Frances Spence Frances V. Spence was one of the original programmers for the ENIAC. She is considered one of the first computer programmers in history.

26 Shafrira Goldwasser Shafrira Goldwasser is an American- Israeli computer scientist and winner of the Turing Award in 2012.

27 Marissa Mayer Marissa Ann Mayer is an American information technology executive, formerly serving as the president and CEO of Yahoo!, a position she had held starting July 2012.

28 Evelyn Boyd Granville Evelyn Boyd Granville was the second African-American woman to receive a Ph.D. in mathematics from an American University; she earned it in from Yale University. She performed pioneering work in the field of computing.

29 Katherine Coleman Goble Johnson
Katherine Coleman Goble Johnson is an African-American mathematician who made contributions to the United States' aeronautics and space programs with the early application of digital electronic computers at NASA.
