3 Levels of Management Senior(Top)- They set the goals for the future of the company – CEO – Chief Executive Officer Middle- Must decide how to meet the goals that senior management sets – Accounting Manager or District Manager Supervisory- Handle day-to-day operations for the company- Store Manager

4 Managerial Tasks Planning Deciding what are the company goals and how to go about meeting them Organizing Groups related activities together and assigns employees to perform them Staffing Deciding how many employees needed and recruits/selects and trains those employees Leading Provides guidance to employees needed to perform their tasks Controlling Evaluating how the company is performing and ensure that company goals are being met

5 Management Roles Interpersonal Requires that a manager be able to develop relationships with people Informational Requires a manager to provide knowledge, news, and advice to employees Decision- Making Must be able to display ability to make changes in policies, resolve conflict, and to best use company resources

6 Management Skills Conceptual Allows a manager to understand how different parts of a business work together Human Relations A manager must be able to motivate and evaluate employees Technical Must know the specific abilities that the employees need to complete their jobs

8 Women and Minorities in Management Glass Ceiling – invisible barrier that prevents women and minorities up the corporate ladder Definitely progressing – HP example

9 What is an Entrepreneur? Entrepreneur Start and run their own business. Risk their own money. More creative typically Ex. Laundry 101 Professional Manager (Intrepreneur) Work for someone else – they dont own the company Any management position within the pyramid
