Global Warming By: Saundra Bratz

Climbing Temperatures Average Temperatures have climbed 1.4 degrees around the world since 1980 If you look at the 21 hottest years measured, 20 of the 21 have occurred within the last 25 years

Melting Ice And Glaciers Arctic region may have its 1 st completely ice-free summer by 2040 or earlier Glaciers are rapidly melting Sea level is rising Montanas Glacier National Park now has only 27 glaciers, versus 150 in 1910

Extreme Weather Hurricanes have increased by 50% in intensity and duration since the 1970s Higher temperatures equal more severe weather

Animal Extinction By 2050, rising temperatures could lead to the extinction of more than a million species The Emperor Penguin population has declined by 70% over the past 50 years

Disappearing Coral Reefs Coral populations could collapse by 2100 Coral bleaching is caused from higher water temperatures

Agriculture Higher temperatures and less rainfall have a negative impact on crops, especially in low latitude areas Increased poverty impact

Disease 30 new diseases have emerged over the last 25-30 years Old diseases that had been under control are now surging again, such as Swine Flu and E. Coli Mosquitoes, Ticks, Algae, Rodents, etc are showing up in new areas

Greenhouse Gases There are 7 types of greenhouse gases, most commonly known: carbon dioxide They trap heat in the atmosphere and can stay there for hundreds to thousands of years Also known as the greenhouse effect

Simple Ways To Help Global Warming Change your light bulbs Ride the bus Hang up clothes on a clothes line Open windows Say no to plastic bags

Go Green Use aluminum water bottles Use cloth bags instead of paper or plastic Composting Turning heat down, put on a sweatshirt instead, etc. Take leftovers home from restaurants Limit your water usage, get conserving shower heads and toilets to save gallons per day
