3 Internet Netiquette & Safety Always use the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM button to open and close the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive. –Pushing on the door closed can damage the drive. Always eject external storage device, such as flash drives, properly. –If the external storage devices are pulled out rather than ejected properly, your data may be damaged. Do not put a magnet near your computer's CPU, as this can damage the computer. Next

4 Internet Netiquette & Safety Never use a computer to steal or destroy computers, files or programs. Do not open or click on banners or advertisements. –If one pops open, click immediately on the X to close it. Always share your Internet knowledge with others. Next

5 Internet Netiquette & Safety Never share your password with anyone –Keep your password a secret*******. Passwords should be at least 8 alpha-numeric characters in length. –Use letters and numbers that are meaningful to you, but that others would not know about. –Passwords should not be names or dates others know. i.e. birthdays, anniversaries, nicknames, etc. Next

6 Internet Netiquette & Safety Never send your picture to a person you have met online. Never agree to go meet a person you have met online. You should know everyone you have as a friend on Facebook or on any of your friends and buddy lists. Never give out information, such as your name, your parents name, your address, telephone number, school name or a friend's name. Never respond to a message that makes you feel confused or uncomfortable. –Tell your teacher or parent if you come across any information online that makes you feel uncomfortable. Next

7 Internet Netiquette & Safety If you need to give personal information on-line, i.e. purchasing or paying a bill, look for the security lock on the taskbar. Or Look at the Address Bar to make sure you are in an https (s is for secure or encrypted) site before entering private information into the computer. Next

8 Internet Netiquette & Safety Do not criticize anyone online. Never use bad language or write hateful things about another person. All capital letters means that you are shouting. Remember Spammers collect screen names in chat rooms. Never download files or programs without permission from an adult. They could contain viruses or programs that can harm your computer. Next

9 Internet Netiquette & Safety Keep your email messages short and to the point. Emails should always include a subject line. Do not forward email without the author's permission. Never open an email from someone you do not know or from a company that appears to have done business with you, especially if it has an attachment. –Email Attachments can contain computer viruses. –You can scan attachments for viruses. Delete suspicious email. –Empty your deleted folder immediately. Next
