1 ELEMEMTARY SCHOOL ICE BREAKER Welcome and greet new learner with an introduction song. Have children join hand and sing along as you and the children learn each others names. Have children weave back and forth playfully as the song is sing. Make a circle, big, big, big. (Make the circle bigger.) Small, small,small. (Make the circle smaller.) Big-big- big. (Make the circle bigger.) Make a circle, small-small-small. (Make the circle smaller.) Hello hello hello. (Everybody waves to each other. Try to make eye contact with all of the children.) Make a circle, round and round. (Holding hands, walk around in a big circle.) Round and round. Round and round. (If you like, move the circle in the other direction.) Make a circle, round and round. Hello, hello, hello. (Everybody waves to each other. Try to make eye contact with all of the children.) Make a circle, up, up, up. (While holding hands, everyone reaches up high!) Down, down, down. (Crouch down low.) Up, up, up. (Reach high!) Make a circle, down, down, down. (Crouch low.) Now sit down. (Everyone sits down.) The song finishes with everybody sitting down, and now you are ready to begin any circle activity you like. You can sing this song with children as you practice entering and exiting the room; you can teach children how to wash their hands; children can hop on one foot; children can learn how to touch their nose/ears/toes and face; or use a simple bed sheet as a parachute to simulate flight as they hop on one foot. The first day is a half day schedule so end the day with excitement and a motivational statement such as We are going to have fun learning our ABCs and 123s on tomorrow would you like that. This statement of excitement encourages new learners that learning is fun and that they are going to love going to school.

2 JUNIOR HIGH AND SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL ICE BREAKER 1.The teacher make their introduction to class as they enter the classroom with a smile and a motivating statement Hello, I am _________, and welcome to title of class. Have students sit anywhere until class introduction have been made and let them know that seating arrangements will take place on the second day of school. 2.Have each student fill out a student interview placard to discover successful cooperative groupings information to start the learning process. For example: a)My name is_______________. b)I excel at__________________ and ____________. c)Three things I want to be better at are _______________, _________________, and ______________________. d)I enjoy watching ___________ programs. e)My career goal is ___________________________. f)I am known for _____________ and ____________. g)The funniest thing I ever did was ____________________. h)I would like to know more about _______________________ and ___________________. 3.Have each student introduce themselves to the class. 4.Have the school policy, class rules, and your expectations for the classroom displayed. Discuss these rules and expectations with the students. Asks students questions about the rules and policies, allowing students to provide feedback. 5.Give the students a short preview of the course subject. Conduct KWL questions and answering session to find out what the student already know; what they have learned; and what they want to learn about the course. Allow for feedback and praise the students for their input, which will encourages students learning acceleration and creative abilities. 6.While listening to students, began to determine cooperative groups settings for student research projects. 7.Stay on academic schedule and keep the first day of school short and informative to give students time to examine everything that has been said and experienced. 8.End the first day on a smart note such as It is my great pleasure to meet all of you. We are going to work as a team to excel in every lesson, every homework assignment, and on every test. It is my greatest endeavor that this year is a successful one for us all.
