5 Shared Reading Interactive reading activity.
Students join in on reading a book, poem or text. We do a weekly poem-poetry notebooks will go home every Friday for you to read together at home, and need to come back every Monday. Please help students read and point to words in poem- you will notice that they will be reading the poems instead of memorizing words by the end of the year.

6 Snack Snack time is usually at 9:10 every day.
Must be healthy snacks-cookies and chips will be put back into their lunchboxes. Label snack and make it easy for children to find. Water can be brought in, but we have a water fountain in our classroom, so drinks are not necessary for snack time.

14 P.E. P.E. is every day of the week.
Mrs. Tomlinson is the P.E. teacher. Please have your child wear or bring gym shoes every day so that they can participate!

15 Reading & Writing Strategies
Inventive spelling-let your child sound out words and write down the letters they hear. I will never tell them how to write a word exactly during writer’s workshop. Reading=basics. Left to right, top to bottom, words vs. letters, where the title is located. They aren’t born knowing this, it has to be taught. They should be pointing and following as you/they are reading to show that EACH WORD HAS IT’S OWN PLACE.

16 Star Student Schedules went home at open house.
I will send home a reminder and a star student bag the Friday before your child’s week. Bags and stuffed animals must come back to school. Please let me know if you will be out of town during your child’s week (only if you’ll be gone the whole week)

17 Addresses My weekly newsletter comes home via unless you request a paper copy. If you haven’t been getting any of my s, please let me know so I can get the right address written down.

18 Newsletter Short note that gets emailed out every Friday.
Recaps the week and gives you a small heads up on the next weeks plans. Materials we might be low on. Important information and schedules will be on there-please take a few minutes to read it.

19 Homework & Sight Words Homework Sight words
