3 PARTS OF A COMPLETE SENTENCE
SENTENCES A sentence is a sequence of words which begins with a capital letter and ends with a period (or ! Or ?) It has a subject It has a verb It has a COMPLETE IDEA The funny, energetic, English teacher has been trying to make sushi at school. PARTS OF A COMPLETE SENTENCE

4 TYPES OF CLAUSES DEPENDENT Clause
that the students enjoyed the grammar lesson It is DEPENDENT upon an independent clause. It has a subject and a verb, but the verb is not the main verb. It does NOT express a complete idea. It cannot stand alone (DEPENDENT) It begins with the indicator that or If, and Wh- words. INDEPENDENT Clause The students enjoyed the grammar lesson. Independent clause can be called the MAIN CLAUSE. It has a subject and a verb. It is a complete idea. It can stand alone (INDEPENDENT) TYPES OF CLAUSES

5 One INDEPENDENT clause that contains a subject and a verb, and expresses a complete thought.
Sindy likes pizza. Some students like to study in the mornings. Abedin and Muhammad play soccer every afternoon. Razan goes to the library and studies everyday. # SIMPLE

6 Two INDEPENDENT clauses combined with a comma and a coordinating conjunction ( 7 FANBOYS)
A coordinating conjunction is a word that connects parts of a sentence. Ahmed likes pizza, but he doesn’t like tacos. Phuong drives to school, and Luan rides with him. , , #2 COMPOUND

7 #3 COMPLEX INDEPENDENT clause + DEPENDENT clause
- Dependent clause begins with a subordinating conjunction which is less important to the main idea clause. Riziki did her homework while she watched a movie. Since Abedin passed his English exam, Lennie has been very happy. #3 COMPLEX

9 2 INDEPENDENT clauses joined with coordinating conjunction + 1 DEPENDENT clauses with a subordinating conjunction. While Maria was sleeping, Evelyn went to the store, and she bought paint. Because I paid attention, I got an A on the test, and I was so happy. Because it was getting late, I went home, but I had to wait on the porch until my mom got home. #4 COMPOUND-COMPLEX
