3. Pirate Health and Fitness
Pirate Health and Fitness House
The focus of our house is to aid students in making better health choices and expose them to opportunities to gain knowledge in the medical field. Examples include: sport medicine, sports management, and athletic training. Careers include nursing and physical therapy
Possible electives: Wrestling, First Aide, Nutrition, Sports Managment

4. Subjects/Grade levels
SDC Geometry and Geometry Tutorial– All grade levels, year-long course

5. Syllabus
All students have been given a syllabus which includes course description, grading policy and contract, to be signed by parent/guardian.
Detailed syllabi are also posted on-line in Schoology.

6. Classroom Expectations
All students are required to uphold LAUSD and SPHS policies of proper dress and behavior. Students will be given a copy of the SPHS Honor Code and will be expected to adhere to its guidelines. In addition, punctuality, preparation, courtesy and respect will of course be expected, and will affect work habits and cooperation grades.

7. Attendance Policy & Class Participation
Students will be held accountable to the SPHS attendance policy, and will also be expected to arrive on time to class each day. Class attendance is very important, not only for class notes taken for test preparation, but also because active participation is an important step in the learning process. Participation activities will occur several times a week, for which attendance is mandatory, and may not be made up.

8. San Pedro High School Attendance Policy:   A maximum of 7 full day absences/28 TOTAL class period absences are allowed during the current school year.   At the 8th full day absence and/or 29th class period absence, FOR ANY REASON, the student’s name will appear on the Non-Participation STOP CLEARANCE LIST.   Students on the STOP CLEARANCE LIST will be prohibited from attending activities. These activities include, but are not limited to: Winter Formal Senior Prom Senior Field Trip Senior Activities (Senior Egg Hunt, Senior breakfast, Senior Extravaganza, Grad Night, etc.) Graduation Ceremony   Notification Process Summer Registration Packet/Attendance Policy Course Syllabus/Parent Letter Website: Daily Bulletin Announcements Parent meetings/Senior meetings Letters home of Non-Participation Posting of Non-Participation List on Bulletin Board & Offices Attendance Check as part of the Graduation Clearance Process for all Potential Graduates.      

9. TEXT/MATERIALS:
Students have been assigned a textbook which they may take home for homework.
Required materials:
Spiral notebook, organized and in class every day for class lecture notes
3 ring binder(they can be a 99 Cent store purchase)
Paper, pens, pencils, highlighter, and any assigned work.

10. Classroom Instruction
Various teaching methods will be employed, including lecture and note-taking, projects and presentations, participation and group interaction, to actively engage students in the learning process.
Common ICPs: “Say, Mean, Matter”, “Think, Pair, Share”, Quick writing, Graphic Organizers all which help students to reflect on their learning.

11. Grading Criteria
Tests and quizzes will comprise approximately 40% of the student’s grade. Homework, class work, projects and participation will make up the other 60%. Test grades and final grades will be figured based on points, on the standard grading scale, below:
A = 90%-100%
B= 80%-89.9%
C =65%-79.9%
D=55%-64.9%
F= 0%-54.9%
