3 Physical Education 9-12 Standards Standard I – Students demonstrate knowledge and competency in motor skills, movement patterns, and strategies needed for physical activity. Standard II – Students achieve a level of physical fitness for health and demonstrate knowledge of fitness concepts. Standard III – Students demonstrate knowledge of psychological and sociological strategies while demonstrating responsible personal and social behavior. At San Pedro High students, teachers, and parents work together to make learning better!

4 Curriculum Map Fitnessgram physical fitness- pre-assessment of individual fitness levels, periodic formative assessments for feedback and improvement, summative assessment near the end of the semester. All classes all levels will be tested! 9th Grade Curriculum - Individual and dual activities, rhythms/dance, fitness activities, and simple to complex movement patterns. 10th Grade Curriculum - Apply movement patterns from simple to complex, in combative, gymnastics/tumbling, and team activities.

Syllabus The ultimate purpose of the SPHS Physical Education Program is to help students gain the skills and knowledge to be physically active for a lifetime. SPHS is committed to providing each student: * A developmentally and instructionally appropriate physical education experience. Instruction in Physical Education incorporating best practices derived from both research and experience for teaching in ways that facilitate success for all students. * Instructional programs aimed at student learning skills and developing and understanding of the benefits and importance of physical activity. * Physical Education that integrates the emotional, social, and intellectual components that develop the whole child.

Active Participation & Responsible Behavior Knowledge, Competency, and Fitness Goal Attainment *Percentages up to individual teachers **Students MUST pass 5 out of the 6 components in order to receive an exemption from taking PE in 11th and 12th grade** Schoology Website

7 Classroom Expectations
Class Rules DRESS OUT POLICY All students are required to dress out everyday in the required school issued PE uniform with socks and athletic shoes. Students may only wear plain black or gray sweatshirts (no writing or other logos and no pockets or hoods) or sweatpants over their PE uniform on cold days. Police Academy are required to dress daily in school issued PE uniforms (white shirts & blue shorts) ****Simply dressing out does not secure a passing grade****

8 Medical Excuse Policy & Class Participation
Students with medical excuses must take their notes to the school nurse prior to physical education class for verification. The medical excuse should state the nature of the injury, limitations, and length of time to be excused. A list of allowable activities should be included for example: moderate movement, power walking, jogging, throwing, catching.

9 Class Projects Individual/Personal Fitness Program
Media/ PowerPoint Presentation Exercise – Nutrition – Fitness Healthy Living Research Projects: The importance that health/wellness plays upon the future of our families, communities, schools, or our culture.

10 Classroom Instruction
Share UCPs used during class. i.e. graphic organizers, exit strategies Teaching strategies to increase understanding (Cooperative groups, Talk time, discussion, Think-Pair-Share, all leading to higher levels of thinking) CLASS of 2018

11 Business Focus on careers in business operations, business administration, marketing and sales, financial planning, investing, banking, and real estate services. Accounting, Entrepreneurship, Tourism and Global Economy. Possible Electives: Accounting, Web Marketing, Consumer Economics, and Business Law

12 Pedro Action League SLC Theme Public Service
Focus on law, societal issues, world events, the role of the citizen, global studies, and national security. Explore careers in law enforcement and public services. SLC Motto: “ The more knowledge we possess, the more our community can progress.”

13 Pirate Health & Fitness
Focus on health, nutrition, managing and providing medical and therapy services, and health information. Explore careers in Sports medicine, Sports management, and athletic training. Careers in Health sciences, nursing, and physical therapy. Possible Electives: Anatomy and Physiology, Body Dynamics, Sports Therapy, Nutrition, First Aid and Emergency care, Physical therapy aide

14 EARTH ALERT Global “Your space, my space, our space.”
Focus on the study of Corporate and Social Ethics, Global Awareness, Environmental Science, Development of Leadership skills, Social Development, and Advocacy. EARTH ALERT

Marine Science: Focus is Science and Math Police Academy: Focus criminal justice & law enforcement. Located at the John & Muriel Olguin Campus
