We learn through an exciting and interesting curriculum. We have fun. We care about each other. We have high expectations of our children. Our motto was created a part of a competition for all the children in school. Jack was in year 1 and he came up with it. You will see it lots – on our website, letters from staff, in the classrooms and we feel it encapsulates our school.

6 Our Curriculum The first year of school is called ‘F2’ which stands for ‘Foundation stage 2’. We sometimes call this year ‘Reception’. We follow the EYFS curriculum. There are lots of ways you can support your child with their learning. The most important ways are : Bring your child to school EVERY day. Talk to your child about the things they do at school. Read with your child often. Attend meetings – parents evening, parent workshops, meet the team. Read the weekly notice and the notice on your child’s class window each week. Do the homework. Dates for your diary : Drop in and meet the team Thursday 3rd or Friday 4th September. You will have been given a time in your pack tonight. Parents evenings – Our first parent workshop next term is

7 Our Expectations Build your confidence
Respect yourself, your school and your community Inspire yourself and others to succeed Learn from your mistakes Listen to others Improve to be the best that you can be Achieve and enjoy safely Never give up Together we aim high These are our Banks Road BRILLIANT expectations. We share these regularly in class and in assemblies. We believe that outstanding behaviour leads to outstanding learning. We help all children to follow these expectations at all times. We recently ran a parents workshop all about our expectations. The power point is available on the school website if you would like more information. We ask that you and your child read together and sign the home/school agreement, which is in your pack. Please bring it back, either on your child’s visit, or on the first day of school.

8 Our Food All children in school get a free hot school dinner.
Dinners are on a 3 weekly rota. Children can have a mix of dinners and sandwiches in a week. There is a form they have to bring on Monday morning if they are not staying dinners all week. It is in your pack tonight. The menu is on the school website, the Local Authority website and in your pack. Packed lunches – a few children have a packed lunch. Please make these healthy. No nuts! Please don’t include drinks as we provide water at mealtimes for all children. Milk – your child is entitled to free milk up to the age of 5. Once they are 5 you have to pay for milk termly. You must register with ‘Cool Milk’ to pay for milk. You must register even if your child is 4 and having free milk. Information about registering for milk is in your pack tonight. Snack – we provide a piece of fruit/vegetable for each child every day. We sit down and eat this together mid morning. They must keep it safe in their tray until snack time.

9 Our Policies and Procedures
As a school we have very many important policies and procedures. These include absence and illness, special education and disability needs, equal opportunities, safeguarding, homework and behaviour. These can be found on our school website under the tab ‘Policies and Procedures’. Some of the important procedures you need to know for the very beginning of school are in your pack tonight. eg. what to do if your child is ill or absent from school. Some will be given out at the beginning of term eg. changing your child’s reading book.
