What will my child be doing at school? We believe that teaching a child to read is the greatest gift you can give them as it unlocks doors to successful futures. We deliver Ruth Miskin Phonics.

Maths Makes Sense Many children find maths difficult as it is ‘abstract’. Maths makes sense is a program proven to make maths concrete from an early age and has had huge success in trial schools all over the country. Your child will be one of the first in the county to adopt this method of learning!

International Primary Curriculum At Gosberton Academy we deliver the International Primary Curriculum. This is a skills-based curriculum, fit for the 21 st Century. All topics start with a ‘WOW’ day to immerse children in their learning.

Early Years Foundation Stage The curriculum in the Early Years is not as ‘formal’ as in other year groups. Children learn through a range of adult led, adult initiated and child- initiated activities both indoors and out. Speaking and listening, learning through play and having fun are essential parts of child development!

How will I know how well my child is doing? All children are regularly assessed to ensure that they are making the desired rates of progress. They are tracked and monitored in all areas of their learning and you are free to both view and contribute to your child’s development journal at any time.

Homework We recognise that you will want to help your child to succeed at school. Support from home is vital. Homework in the foundation stage in the autumn term is mainly centered around practicing the sounds and letters they bring home. For a child of foundation age, regular sharing of stories and real-life experiences such as shopping or cooking together is the best homework they can have!

After School Activities The school offers a menu of after school clubs and activities. These range from cooking to netball. They tend to vary each term and are age appropriate.

Attendance and Holidays We keep a very close eye on attendance as school attendance is vital if children are to reach their potential. Each term your child will be given a traffic light ‘coding’ for their attendance: It is good to be green! Please note: No permission will be given for holidays during school term time.

School Dinners The children in class one eat together at lunch whether they have hot school dinner or a packed lunch. There is lots of choice and special diets can be catered for. However, meals MUST be ordered in advance using the Parent Pay.

Parent Pay Gosberton Academy is now a cashless School. You will have the opportunity to find out more and view parent pay on the first transition afternoon.
