The fruit is a pea-shaped pod approximately 4 cm in length. When opened and dried, 3 to 5 scarlet pea-sized seeds with a small black spot at the point of attachment are found. As shown, these seeds are glossy and colored bright red and black. The rosary pea contains the toxalbumin abrin. Abrus precatorius has many common names including jequirty pea, rosary pea, Indian bean, Buddhist’s rosary bead, prayer bead, and crab’s eye.
