This is to develop independent learning based on activities in class. It will be given out on a Friday and must be returned by the following Tuesday. This work will be used in class also so please encourage your child to be prompt bringing it in. Reading Daily if possible, from a range of materials to include fiction, poems, non-fiction. Share literature together. Please comment and sign the reading diary. 10

11 We try to set Home Learning Activities which
require children to become more independent learners. With this in mind some Home Learning Tasks will be linked to a topic or theme include areas of independent study may take the form of research, preparing a presentation or be practical involving art or craft may be set for extended periods of time In addition small pieces of additional home learning may be set, for example: involve the children finding out a fact, bringing a picture or a news clip, asking someone a question, etc

12 Maths Home Learning This will sometimes take the form of an investigation, or sometimes be something to learn. It will give the children an opportunity to either practise a skill they have been learning or prepare them for related learning. In addition, children need to learn to recall tables in random order and carry out quick mental calculations, these can always be practised! The children are tested and timed every Thursday afternoon. Ask them how they're getting on. 12

13 If you have any problems/ issues with the
homework: look at any information/examples given encourage your child to ask for help in school – have a go on the night it’s been given if possible jot down a note on work or in the home learning book pop in and see us

14 Educational Visits Residential Visits 14

15 How can you help your child at home?
Establish routines: Provide a quiet place for home learning. Encourage them to be physically active, eat well and sleep! Read aloud with your children – ask them questions about what has been read [opinion + why] Support Home Learning tasks on a regular basis – little and often if possible Encourage them to tackle tasks independently at first – then offer support e.g. ‘Let’s look at the example together’ 15

16 At home . . . Read anything! Library, book club, magazines, games instructions, newspapers, signs etc Write for a purpose: Postcards, shopping lists, thank you letters, Spellings: Practise these regularly (SATs) Use Maths: Cook, look for patterns, money in shops etc Science: notice the world 16

17 We have HIGH EXPECTATIONS…
Children have to be in school to learn They will work hard at all times Behaviour to learn Every second counts We want the children to Love learning!
