3 Skills based Curriculum
Topic based learning: Literacy History D&T Time travellers / Ancient Egypt / Coast Geography Numeracy Art Music ICT

4 Reading We will continue to use Bug Club in Year 3 during our guided reading sessions and for those children invited to attend Bug Club in the morning too. We would still like to see and encourage children to be using Bug Club at home, as well as their school reading book.

5 Reading Every Friday reading records are checked for reading and parent/guardian signatures. There will also be a comment in your child's reading record when they have worked with an adult during their weekly guided read session from Teacher or Teaching Assistant. Please ensure that your child reads at least 3 times a week but every night is great. (10 minutes). Learning key words and asking questions about the books that they are reading to develop comprehension. Please sign reading records every time your child has read (daily).

6 English Expectations:
Spellings – We will continue to use Babcock no nonsense spelling in school. Your child will have three small spelling sessions a week. Your child may get spelling home to practice if they are finding any spellings patterns difficult. This ensures progression throughout the key stage and leading on from KS1. Expectations of presentation. Writing for a variety purposes. Beginning to join handwriting initially as they move from Y2 to Y3.

7 Numeracy Areas of learning this term are: Mental maths Rapid recall
Real life problem solving and application Reasoning Written and mental strategies Presentation of work To know by heart all the 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 and 10 times tables

8 Homework Homework will be given out on a Wednesday. This will be based on work relating to the half term topic or during that week for English or Maths. We tend to alternate but this can change depending on the needs of the class Weekly spelling practice Times table practice Daily reading

9 Physical Education/languages
One lesson a week with Mr Cairns and French with Madame Hay One lesson a week with Class Teacher Please ensure that your child’s PE kit is always present in school on these days.

10 Winter Games Kit PE Kit Plain tracksuit - no football White T-shirt
Black or navy blue shorts Trainers Winter Games Kit Plain tracksuit - no football strip Trainers

11 Healthy Minds Water bottles – access all day
Morning snack – please no crisps, chocolate or sweets. Snack trolley- available every break time which provides Toast, Bagels and sometimes Tea cakes, frozen jubblies in summer and always fruit. Class equipment- Chn have to use school handwriting pens and pencils. They may have their own pencil case if they wish for wet play or special art and design but need to take responsibly for these as they are not a requirement.

12 Classroom Plan – Our Promises
Developing independence. Children putting their own things away. Responsibilities to take care of their own belongings, letters, homework and PE/ Games kit. To ask for help whenever the children require it.

13 Behaviour and Discipline – It’s good to be green!
Positive discipline – Verbal Praise, Stickers, certificates and tokens. Red and amber cards Parental involvement Golden table at lunchtimes
