This character is a businessman and moneylender who is miserly, bitter and cruel to all around him.
He has an overwhelming hatred of Christmas and what it stands for.
He is visited by four spirits on Christmas Eve who show him the error of his ways.

3. 2.
This character is one of Scrooge’s employees. He is poor, with a large family to support.
Despite his unfortunate situation, this character is a kind and cheery man. Although he is treated badly by Scrooge, he is grateful to him for the employment with which he provides him.

4. This character is Scrooge’s nephew. 3.
This character is Scrooge’s nephew.
Every year, he invites Scrooge to spend Christmas with him and his family, and every year Scrooge refuses. Although this character isn’t rich compared to Scrooge, he loves to celebrate Christmas and the joy it brings.

5. 4.
This character is Bob Cratchit’s youngest son. He is extremely ill and his family cannot afford to pay for a doctor.
Despite this, he is full of life and love and is grateful for what he has. One of the spirits shows Scrooge that this character will die young, if his circumstances don’t improve.

This character is an employer from Scrooge’s youth. He was a generous and fun loving employer who was renowned for his lavish and wonderful Christmas parties.
He was a friendly and generous employer, but not a very successful business man, and Scrooge despised him as a result.

7. 6.
This character is Scrooge’s dead business partner. In life, he was very much like Scrooge. On Christmas Eve, this character visits Scrooge to warn him that unless he changes, he is doomed to an eternity of misery.
It is also this character who warns Scrooge of the forthcoming visits of the three other spirits.

This character is a spirit who takes Scrooge to see how other families are preparing for, and celebrating, Christmas.
Scrooge is shown his own nephew’s family and the Cratchits, who have less than he has, sharing in the joy of Christmas. This spirit also reveals what these people think of Scrooge.

This character is a spirit that shows Scrooge the future – after his death.
Scrooge sees how nobody mourns his death. He is also shown how Tiny Tim has succumbed to the illness that has brought an end to his short life as a result of poverty.

This character is a spirit who takes Scrooge back to important moments in his past, to show him how he has become the miser he is today and how he could have avoided it.
Key moments in his past include the period when he worked for Fezziwig and his engagement to Belle.
