Patterns of Leadership Actions "structures for making a difference!" Leadership Patterns are thoughtfully selected & structured acts, which blend in purposeful combinations of specified personality traits or other important characteristics, and which serve to reflect or promote the leader's immediate priorities, current strategies & long-term agendas. A shorter definition of leadership patterns is: construct & use behaviors that empower leaders to make a positive impact, difference or impression. The 'working model' of your personal patterns looks like this: –devote your time to extending your vision, values & virtues –invest your time in learning about, building-up & helping others –dedicate your resources to enhancing your leadership qualities

Your Most Precious Resource "Time" You may, you must or you could do any of these things with your "Time" –Invest it –Spend it –Value it –Throw-it-away –Waste it –Lose yourself or get lost in it –Optimize your use of it –Maximize your use of it –Manage it –Parcel out your use of it –Savor or enjoy it

Time-critical Patterns Time with Others –Learn about their problems, needs, desires, hopes & goals –Build-up their hopes, visions, plans, skills & behaviors –Help them to develop, learn, grow, think & believe Works long hours –Encourage the passion, fire & intent of your commitment –Plan your work, work your Plan, Adjust & Refine your Plans –Do it now - be a faithful & trustworthy Steward of Time Short Conversations –Get to the point - is there "progress" or a "problem" –Focus-on your information needs for the mission or project –What decisions or action(s) can they take next?

Engage your Mouth, Show your Heart Off-topic Discussions –Learn about what is important to them on- & off-the-job. –Be casual, relaxed - a confidante, an approachable person. –Share yourself with each individual or team member Discuss Many Topics –Learn about diverse perspectives, viewpoints or opinions. –Engage them in "possibility-thinking" & systematic creativity. –Pursue gaps, defects, omissions, relevance, needs… etc. Asks Many Questions –To learn the 'real' situation or facts & their true feelings. –To clarify the dilemma, parameters or causes of "problems". –To explore, discover & evaluate new or different possibilities

Relating to Others "the art of effective persuasion" Rarely gives orders –explains the problem, need or situation & then asks for help –prefers to respect the 'leadership' [actual experience] of others –asks others to clarify [not defend] current situation or needs Influences others –shows a sincere & deep interest in others' problems, needs, etc. –uses currency of camaraderie & friendship to gain support –offers to & does help others whenever possible without obligation Reacts to others' acts –has a service mentality, wants to help others whenever possible –knows that needs must first be expressed by those who need help –feels & appears to be confident and secure in being on-target

Makes Wise Decisions wisdom is precious treasure! "The fool says in his heart, there is no God" - A Proverb –wisdom knows that there is some Higher Power or Being Maintain frequent, in-depth contact with other leaders who have proven track records of accomplishments –advisers & counselors who are seasoned achievers are golden Humility and meekness is the beginning of wisdom –brashness or boastfulness masks insecurity & foolhardiness Recklessness and baseness lead one to foolishness –lack of self-control, morals & ethics become failed ventures Every decision involves elements of fear, risk, uncertainty –the wise leaders realize this truth & share it with others
