4 Changes to curriculum and assessment   The level format for Maths and English has now gone as have the higher level 6 papers. Progress reports will now be given in steps.   Topic learning will follow the new National Curriculum which is without levels, instead progressing according to year group.

6 What is it like to be part of our school? The Christian ethos is essential to our school The school is part of community. We aim to develop inquisitive minds, curiosity and passion for learning. We encourage children to take calculated risks. Children are trusted and taught to develop their independence.

7 A typical day in Pluto/Neptune Class 8.45 – Register, spellings, x tables 9.00 – Guided reading 9.20 – 10.40 – Literacy Including comprehension, spellings and grammar 10.40 – Break 11.00 – Numeracy 12.00 – Lunch 1.pm – 2.45– Topic work 3.00 – 3.20 Story/circle time and home

9 Homework Learning Log Tasks Daily reading 1 maths and Reading Journal/English task per week (occasionally there may be an additional task) 4 spellings each day Mental maths skills Mathletics Maths task 1 topic task per topic Set on Thursday/ completed for Tuesday Learning Log club –Friday (Neptuneclass)

10 Reading Reading Books/ Reading record – Children should read for 15-20 minutes each day. We also encourage you to hear your child read aloud as often as possible. Children are to complete Reading Journal homework to reflect on and evaluate their reading. Library – children encouraged to visit library during their lunch.

11 Maths Due to the new maths groupings, maths homework will now be set for the group by their maths teacher. This will ensure that the homework is challenging for all children. Furthermore, the homework will relate to the skills the children have been developing in class that week.

12 Writing BIG WRITE Handwriting – practised in school, high standards of presentation are expected in all written work. Pen licenses – awarded when children’s handwriting is consistently good quality. Free writing – all writing is encouraged and seen to be of benefit. This is linked with role play activities Spelling – spellings are set by group and are tested each Monday.

13 Day to Day Expectations Children need: Correct school uniform (details of this can be found on the school website) Hair tied back and stud earrings only, no other jewellery. PE Kit – shorts & jogging bottoms, shirt in the colour of their house. To be able to take their own earrings out for PE Wellies/change of shoes & mac for rainy weather. Drinks bottles (water only)

14 Prefect Expectations Prefects must: Be organised and complete their daily duties. Set an example to other children throughout the school in terms of: Uniform Behaviour Completion of homework Self organisational skills Keeping the four golden rules Showing positive attitudes towards learning

16 Vivo Two or three times in a half term, during Wednesday morning assembly, children will be given a certificate depending on what level they have achieved. Gold and Platinum certificates are awarded and celebrated within Friday’s Celebration Assembly. Orange (10) Green (25) Bronze (50) Silver (100) Gold (175) Platinum (250)

17 General Information Newsletters sent home each week Star of the week and Maths Mind – awarded every Friday in assembly Head’s Picnic – children chosen as Star of the Week will join the head for a picnic. Curriculum information – Has been sent home in our parent topic booklet. Parent helpers – we greatly appreciate any help on trips. If you are able to help with topic books, please let us know.
