2 About Me Education Council Rock K-12 Towson University * Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education Temple University * Master’s Degree in Education and Curriculum Design Taught kindergarten for one year This is my 8 th year teaching first grade

3 Important Procedures Attendance-Attendance is taken daily at 9:10. If your child arrives after that, a late pass must be obtained at the security office when he or she is signed in. Excuse notes are required for tardiness as well as absences. Snack-Pack one NUT FREE healthy snack each day and any utensils if needed. Dismissal-Remember to send in a note if your child is going to be a car rider or riding a friend’s bus. I cannot send ANY children out to a car or another bus without a note. Early Dismissal Days – Dismissal will begin around 12:15. Send in a note if there are any dismissal changes. Vacation- Work will be completed upon your return. Absence – Send me an e-mail or a note the day your child returns to school stating the reason he/she was absent. There is also a spot on Sol Feinstone’s website to fill out an absence form. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!

4 Important Procedures Continued Birthdays – I will send home a letter at the beginning of your child’s birthday month. You may send in a NUT FREE snack for 24 students. Please pre-cut snacks and send in utensils and napkins. Send a list of ingredients. smallStar Student – If your child’s “Star Stick” is pulled, I will send home a letter on Friday. Decorate the “Star Student Interview” for the following week. Your child may bring in something small to share with the class one of the days. He/she will also bring home “Starphibian” and write in a Star journal. Classroom celebrations – We will have celebrations for Halloween*, Thanksgiving, Winter, Valentine’s Day, and the end of the year. Only the 2 HR Parents, 2 extra volunteers, and photographer are permitted in the classroom. The HR Parents will be in charge of scheduling. This year our school is limiting the amount sweets served. *Halloween: All parents and other family members may come and stand outside to watch the parade.

13 Tests Math Topic Tests 1 – 20 Topic Review the night before Taken as a group and is viewed on the Smartboard May have a Bonus Question 4 Timed Addition/Subtraction AssessmentsSpelling 8-10 words and a bonus word Given words on Monday and test will be on Friday Patterns (short vowels, double consonants, digraphs, etc.) Taken as a group *Tests will come home in the yellow Test Folder. Sign and return the folder.

14 Mondays: Math Tuesdays: Word Study Wednesdays: Math Thursdays: Language Arts (Spelling and Reading) *10 – 15 minutes per night * If your child finishes early, read, practice flashcards, or play an educational game on my website. * Always use a pencil! You will need crayons or colored pencils for some assignments. The homework is subject to change.

18 Behavior Plan 1 Warning : Reminder… yellow 2 Warnings: Your frog is moved to the yellow lily pad. 3 warnings : Your frog is moved to the magenta lily pad and you sit in the “Think Pad” and reflect on your choices. You may join the class when you are thinking positively. A note or e-mail might be sent to your parents and an Apology in Action may need to be completed. **3 Times in the Think Pad : Mr. Harlan’s R.E.S.P.E.C.T.
