Concern with Primary Reading Achievement – Developmental Reading Assessment Data [DRA II]

All of our grade 3 students need to score at proficient or above on all measures of reading achievement.

Bristol teachers do an amazing job teaching students to read. Our teachers need to continuously learn new strategies to assure all students are reading proficiently by the end of grade 3.

School Success Plans Each year, every school in Bristol has a School Data Team that meets at least monthly. These teams create student achievement goals and determine what adult actions need to improve to assist students in meeting their goals. Changes in adult actions are measured as part of our teacher evaluation plan. We call this the Professional performance Objective or PPO. Aligning all of the work that teachers do creates a feedback system that is focused upon continuous improvement of teachers and students.

Literacy Work is the Focus of All School Success Plans Common Core Literacy Skills are woven into all curricular areas. Examples of this include: a guaranteed research experience in a social studies class; making inferences in a lab report; maintaining a math journal to remind students of functions and processes; Creating a brochure to advertize a product created in a technology class; critiquing a work of art or musical composition; and understanding that literacy skills are foundational to learning any content.
