1 History *To learn about events beyond living memory e.g. Victorian life. *To study the lives of significant individuals in the past who have contributed to national and international achievements. E.g. Queen Victoria. *To learn about significant historical events, people and places in their own locality. To complete a visit to a Victorian building and experience life as a Victorian child. Literacy Speaking & Listening: To listen and respond appropriately to adults and their peers. To take part and take turns in a conversation showing awareness of the needs of the listener. To ask relevant questions to extend their understanding and knowledge. Reading:. To read accurately words with two or more syllables. To read further common exception words. (and be able to spell these words also) To read words on sight quickly without the need for sounding out. To pick up new vocabulary and be able to explain the meanings of new words. Add these words to their everyday vocabulary. To read with increasing fluency, accuracy, understanding and enjoyment. To check text makes sense to them as they read and correcting inaccurate reading, To make inferences on the basis of what is being said and done. To work out the sense of a sentence by re-reading or reading ahead. To participate in discussion about books that are read to them and those that they read for themselves, taking turns and listening what others say. To make comparisons, and find similarities and differences between the books that they read. Writing: To learn to spell words with contracted forms and use these in their writing, To learn about the possessive apostrophe. Use this to show belonging. To distinguish between homophones and near-homophones. To add suffixes to spell longer words, including –ment, -ness, -ful, -less, -ly. To complete handwriting in a joined cursive style, with consistent sizing and spacing To re-read their work, to check, edit and make improvements to others and their own work. To include expanded noun phrases for description and detail (adjectives) To start each sentence with a different time connective. (First, Then, Next) To extend shorter sentences with a suitable conjunction. (but, and,or, because) To write extended texts in subjects across the curriculum. To explore and use a wide range of punctuation accurately. Numeracy Number To choose and explain the most effective strategy to solve written problems. To show their working out when problem solving. To understand that + and – are inverse operations, as are x and divide. To solve missing number problems by number juggling, To complete balanced sums, making sure both sides of the equation give the same answer. To use the symbols + - X ÷ correctly in the correct context. To check their calculations using estimation. To continue to count in patterns of 2, 5 and 10. Times tables. Be introduced to the x3 x4 patterns. Shape, Space, Measures. To solve worded problems relating to shape, space and measures. To read and select the correct calculation. To explain the strategies and steps used. Money – To combine coins to make given amounts and complete a subtraction to work out the change, To use and understand units of measurement e.g. Capacity = litres, millilitres, Length = mm/cm/m, weight = g or kg, time = seconds, minutes, hours) To name and describe 2d and 3d shapes, to sort by their properties. Discuss similarities and differences between shapes. To tell the time to the nearest 5 minutes. (5 past, 10 past etc.) Data Handling. To find fractions of quantities. To compare fractions of quantities. To find simple equivalent fractions e.g. ½ is the same as 2/4. Science Uses of Everyday Materials. * Observe and describe how seeds and bulbs grow into mature plants * To find out and describe how plants need water, light and a suitable temperature to grow and stay healthy. A day in the life of a Victorian child, the differences between rich and poor Victorian's. Use ICT to research the Victorians and find photographs of artefacts. Literacy * *Creative story telling with a clear beginning, middle and end. *Make the conclusion of our story inked to the beginning. *Use a wider range of openers (time adverbials) e.g. First, Next, Later on etc. *Use conjunctions to extend or explain our sentences further. *Listen, enjoy and comment on shared reading texts. *Predict what may happen next, discuss likes/ dislikes and offer opinions. *Ask and answer questions about books they have read. *Retell familiar stories through drama, role play and hot seating activities. Revise 2D and 3D shapes and their properties. ICT – Education city – revision games and quizzes. Science *Naming and identifying plant parts, types and identifying their seeds. *Studying similarities and differences between plants and animals. *Looking at the conditions needed for growing our own seeds. *Design and complete our own Science experiments that test conditions for growth. * Plan and carry out a fair test. ICT – Science simulations – online resources to speed up and look closer at plant growth. ICT – microscopes to look closely at plant parts.
