To identify and compare the suitability of a variety of everyday materials, including wood, metal, plastic, glass, brick, rock, paper and cardboard for particular uses. To find out how the shapes of solid objects made from some materials can be changed by squashing, bending, twisting and stretching. Working Scientifically. *asking simple questions and recognising that they can be answered in different ways *observing closely, using simple equipment *performing simple tests *identifying and classifying *using their observations and ideas to suggest answers to questions *gathering and recording data to help in answering questions. RE and PSHE -Children can name and identify some feelings and express some of their positive qualities. -They can demonstrate that they can manage some feelings in a positive and effective way. Discovery RE Enquiry – What is the best way for a Jew to show commitment to God? To use the right names for things that are special to Jews, I can start to express an opinion on things that might be important to a Jew,. PE *To engage in competitive (both against self and against others) and co-operative physical activities, in a range of increasingly challenging situations. *To master basic movements including running, jumping, throwing and catching, as well as developing balance, agility and co-ordination, and begin to apply these in a range of activities. *To participate in team games, developing simple tactics for attacking and defending. *To understand the effects of exercise on our bodies. French To count up to 30 in French. To answer the register in numerical French order. To say their name in French. To learn the names of colours in French. Art/DT DT 4a – learn about the working characteristics of materials. 2b – explore the sensory qualities of materials. 2c – measure, mark out, cut and shape a range of materials. 2b – assemble, join and combine materials and components. 2e – use simple finishing techniques to improve the appearance of their project using a range of equipment. 2f – follow safe procedures for food safety and hygiene. ART 4c – learn about differences and similarities in the work of artists. 5a – investigate different kinds of art, craft and design. Computing To understand what algorithms are; how they are implemented as programs on digital devices; and that programs execute by following precise and unambiguous instructions. *To create and debug simple programs and APPs *To use logical reasoning to predict the behaviour of simple programs *To use technology purposefully to create, organise, store, manipulate and retrieve digital content. *To use a computer graphics program to produce computer art, using a range of tools and evaluate the program for its effectiveness. *To use search engines for research. *To understand how to use the internet and ICT resources safely.. Objectives for Year 2 Summer 1 ‘What is it made from?’ Music *To use their voices expressively and creatively by singing songs and speaking chants and rhymes. *To play tuned and untuned instruments musically. *To listen with concentration and understanding to a range of high-quality live and recorded music. *To experiment with, create, select and combine sounds using the inter-related dimensions of music

2 History Not taught this half term. English Reading:. We will be able to read with more fluency. We won't need to stop as often to sound out unknown words. We will be able to talk about the books we read. We will be able to self correct our own mistakes or re-read a sentence again to check it makes sense. We will be able to answer questions about what we have read. We will go back to the book to find answers to a comprehension question. We will skin or scan text to find the correct answer. #We will answer written questions in a full sentence. We will use inference skills to predict what may happen next and why things have happened in a story., We will find out new words and word meanings as we read and use these in our own writing. Writing: We will plan our ideas for writing before we start. We will start each sentence with a time connective to show sequence and order to our stories. We will use conjunctions to extend shorter sentences and give explanation. We will start sentences with clear capital letters and end with full stops. We will write using different sentence types. We will use the correct punctuation for each sentence type, We will use speech marks and different words for said to describe how our characters talk to each other We will use words with apostrophes in our writing. We will use words with suffixes in our writing (–ment, -ness, -ful, -less, -ly.) We will write using a cursive handwriting style. We will make sure the size of our handwriting is the same and that we have finger spaces to match the sixe of our writing. We will be proud to read out our work to a reading partner or to the whole class. We will go back to our writing and suggest how it could be improved. Numeracy Number We will try and choose the best strategy to solve written problems. We will show our working out when solving problems.. We understand that addition can be done in any order but subtraction cannot. We will solve missing number problems by number juggling, We will sue the = sign to show the answer or when something is the same. We will read a word problem and know which calculation is needed. + - X ÷ We will count in multiples of 2, 5 and 10. We can count on in patterns of 3. Shape, Space, Measures. We will solve word problems about shapes, length, weight or,money. We will be able to read a word problem and choose the correct calculation to complete. We will be able to put coins together to pay for items in the quickest way, We can do a subtraction to work out the change needed. We will be able to tell you the units of measurement needed for length, weight, time or capacity. We will be able to name, sort and recognise 2d and 3d shapes. We will use shape language to describe the shapes. We will be able to look at scales or rulers and say what the measurement is. Data Handling. We will able to split a shape up into equal amounts,. We will be able to say what fraction of a shape is coloured. We will be able to say which fraction is the biggest in size. We can find a fraction of a number. We will be able to say which fractions are the same as each other (equivalent). Science *We will sorting and group materials by what they are made from. We will take part in a material hunt around our school and school grounds. *We will sort, group and find examples of natural and manmade things. *We will explore which objects can change their shape by bending, stretching, twisting etc. We will find out which materials will return to their original shape? *We will investigate the difference between transparent, translucent and opaque materials. Investigations – what happens when materials are heated and cooled? Are these changes reversible? Which is the best material for the job? ICT – science simulations – online experiments. RE and PSHE Enquiry – What is the best way for a Jew to show commitment to God? We will learn more about the traditions of the Jewish religion. We will ask Mrs Fabian questions to find out more. PE *Dance – Bollywood Dancing Games – We will use bats and balls to improve our balancing, throwing, hitting and catching. We will use bats and balls to create our own games. We can explain the rules of our games to other children. French We will answer the register in numerical French order. We will learn French colours. We will welcome each other using French greetings. Art *We will learn about the work of Andy Goldsworthy. We will recreate his artwork and then use his ideas to create our own. ICT – Computer Art, we will photograph our natural material collages. DT Paper sculptures –We will bend, fold, twist and assemble paper into a 3d sculpture. We will design, make and evaluate our own musical instrument from recycled materials. Activities for Year 2 Summer 1 ‘What is it made from?’ Music We will design and make own junk instrument (play tuned and untuned instruments) We will sing songs from memory. We will create their own compositions and invent a way to record these using musical symbols. ICT – sound recording /Music APPS
