2 Welcome back Class 2! I hope you all enjoyed the Christmas break and are looking forward to 2016! Our new topic for this term is Night Time. We will be covering as many aspects as we can fit in, such as: the moon and stars, nocturnal animals and people who work at night. The Classroom I have set up a new topic area in our classroom displaying lots of nocturnal animals and information about them. If you have any night time themed toys/figures we could use this term please bring them and make sure your child’s name is on them. Special Days/Trips Hopefully we will hopefully have an owl sanctuary or/and hedgehog rescue visitors come in and talk to us about the animals. Homework – This term we will continue to look at spelling rules and making sure simple words are spelt correctly in class. Please find spelling lists attached and help your child practise these at home. We will have spelling tests on Friday (starting next week) – it is important that they retain the correct spelling and use it independently not just remember it for the weekly test. Children can have as many reading books per week as you would like, please feel free to change your books before or after school. Children will have a colour sticker on the front of their reading record book so you know which books are the right level for your child. Remember to record when you have read at home as I award a merit for each time. Children will be given a times tables to practise at home. By the end of Key Stage 1 children should know their 10, 2 and 5 times tables as well as they know their name. They will be expected to know them in any order. Once these are mastered they can go on to learn the other tables. We are now learning the tables up to 12 – eg 12 x5=60. Remember to check for games and activities on the active learn site, try to collect as many coins as you can to spend! https://www.activelearnprimary.co.uk/login Other information Please ensure your child’s belongings are clearly named, including PE kit (clothes/daps) and water bottles. Anything unnamed and unclaimed by a child will be placed in lost property (under display table at main reception). If you have any themed toys/figures we could use this term please bring them and make sure your child’s name is on them. If you have any questions or queries please do not hesitate to contact me at school or via email: srock@hartpury.gloucs.sch.uksrock@hartpury.gloucs.sch.uk Many thanks Miss Rock
