2 History * We will learn about the history of Scurvy. What was it? Who suffered from it? Why? How was it treated? Geography * We will find out where does our food come from? * We will find out which Food is produced in the UK. * Where in the world is food made? * We will learn about road safety and how to stay safe out on the roads. Literacy *We will be Improving our writing using Adjectives, Time Connectives, Similes and Adverbs. *We will use conjunctions – and, so, but, because etc. to extend or explain our sentences. *We will use lots of different punctuation in our writing correctly., ! ? “ “ ‘ *We will make sure our stories have a beginning, middle and end. *We will use paragraphs to show the different sections of our writing. *We will look at the difference between fiction and non-fiction books. *We will learn about the features of non-fiction books and be able to use a contents page, glossary and index. *We will create Poems with rhyme and good *We will use the computers to type our stories, we will get better at editing and improving our work both on and off the computer. *We will learn to join up our writing in our new cursive handwriting style. Numeracy Number We will be able to solve maths problems and talk about the strategies we have used. We will be able to quickly double or half a number up to 20 and then beyond. We will solve missing number problems by working out the difference between numbers. We will make sure that balanced sums have the same total on both sides if the equals sign. We will be counting in patterns of 2, 5 and 10 and then the x3 pattern. Shape, Space, Measures. We will work out change by using a subtraction sum. We will create bar charts and pictograms about our favourite foods and flavours. We will answer questions about the information we have collected. Science We will learn about the basic needs to stay alive. We will be sorting food into the different food groups (bread/pasta, fats and oils, fruit, vegetables, dairy) We will make food diaries and see if we eat a balanced diet. We will learn about the difference between healthy and unhealthy foods. ICT – we will use online encyclopaedias to research food facts. We will experiment how exercise effects our body. Which is the best type of exercise? We will talk about the changes that happen to our bodies as we grow up. We will test how quickly germs can spread. RE and PSHE -Spring 2 – Discovery RE Is it true that Jesus came back to life again? We will learn about the Easter story, We will order what happened during Easter. -We will explain why it is important to wash our hands and talk about personal hygiene. -We will learn about keeping safe and healthy and the good and bad things about medicines. -We will take part in Road Safety lessons to understand why it is important to stay safe near the roads. PE We will work together the follow simple team games e.g. quick cricket. Target games.. We will create and play our own simple scoring games. We will feel how exercise affects our bodies and compare our heart rate before, during and after exercise. French *We will answer the register using a French greeting. We will count up to 20. We will say our name and age in French. We will find out the names for common foods in French. Art/DT * We will taste and make Healthy food smoothies– planning, preparation, tasting and evaluating. * We will design and make packaging for our own chocolates. * We will use Colour mixing to make exact food shades for our observational drawings. Suggested Activities for Year 2 Spring 2 ‘Food Detectives!” Music *We will make our own music sequences and patterns. We will use the IPADS to record our music and write this down using our own notes and invented symbols. We will hear the difference between beat and rhythm.
