Tanzania is in Africa. My name is Miss Dogan and I will be joining your school as a Year One teacher next year. I am very much looking forward to joining your school. I am especially looking forward to sharing with you some of my experiences during my time in Tanzania. Schools are different from in England however children still have lots of fun learning and I enjoy seeing them excited. Here are some photographs of things I have done with my class during the year as a taster for you to start learning about school life in Tanzania. School Life in Tanzania.

Halloween This was our Halloween assembly. The children all came to school in their costumes. Can you guess who the spooky ghost is?

World Book Day Last year for World Book Day, we made our own Cat in the Hat costumes. Can you spot our whiskers?

World Book Day On World Book Day this year, the children all came to school as their favourite characters and I dressed up as Where’s Wally. What did you all do on World Book Day?

Art Week We learnt about an artist called David Edgar who uses old plastic bottles and lids to make fish and other sea creatures. The children had a go at making their own too. Do you think they did a good job?

Art Week We also learnt about an artist called Jane Perkins who uses plastic junk to create mosaics. The children had a go at making their own mosaics of their favourite cartoon characters.

When the children finished their pictures, we stuck them on the windows for mums and dads to see. Which cartoon character do you like the most? Spongebob, Mario or Minnie?

Art Week We used broken pieces of glass to make car, flower, heart and butterfly mosaics. The children had to take their time and be extremely careful because the glass was very sharp!

Trip to Village Museum We went on a class trip to the Village Museum to learn about the different types of homes people of Tanzania live in. Some of them looked very different to the homes we live in in England. What do you notice is different about your home and the home in this picture?

Italy Wow Week We had a week of exciting topic lessons when we started learning about Italy. Have any of you ever been to Italy?

Flying to Rome Children had to have their passports checked before getting on the plane. Children sat down in their seats ready for take off. Have any of you ever been on a plane? Where did you go?

Food Tasting Children tasted famous Italian cheese, salami and chocolate. They didn’t like the cheese but of course they loved the chocolate!

Pizza Making We learnt that pizza comes from Italy and the children made their own pizzas – they were delicious! What’s your favourite kind of pizza?

Volcano Project We learnt about the 3 famous volcanoes in Italy, then we made our own and watched it erupt!

Learning about England We learnt all about England and explored some of the famous buildings in London. The children used clay to make models of these buildings. Have any of you ever been to London? Do you recognise Big Ben or the London Eye?

Learning about forces We made balloon cars to learn about forces, and did a fun experiment outside to see how far cars would travel.

Learning about electricity We learnt all about batteries and children used them to make a bulb light up. We also learnt about how we can create electricity with a balloon!

Christmas Fair Children made their own games for mums and dads to play at the Christmas fair.

We made some fantastic Christmas crackers, yummy jars of reindeer food and pretty clay tree decorations to sell at the Christmas Fair. Christmas Gifts

Road Safety Week We learnt some important rules on how to cross the road safely and children used chalk to draw some safe crossings on the map.

Road Safety Week They practiced crossing the road safely using some toy cars and lego men. Do you know any rules for crossing the road?

Road Safety Week Children even went out onto the play ground to draw their own roads and crossings. Then they used the cars to act out how they should and should not cross the road.

I hope that you all enjoyed looking at the pictures! I can’t wait to meet you all in September and be the classteacher of the Dazzling Ducks class! I shall tell you lots more about my time in Tanzania and how schools differ to those in England during the year and I hope we will be able to develop some great links with schools in other countries. See you all soon!
