2 WHAT IS MALNUTRITION? Malnutrition is the condition that results from lack of nutrients or overindulging in certain nutrients. While malnutrition Is more prevalent in underdeveloped countries, Americans are still at risk. Malnutrition can lead to several nutritional disorders.

3 MALNUTRTION There are different levels of malnutrition Acute malnutrition-allows human body to secure the energy their bodies need to support vital organ functions, cell development, and tissue Moderate Acute Malnutrition- greatly increases morbidity rates, by introducing serious deficiencies. Severed Acute Malnutrition- most extreme form, and is deadly if left untreated

4 MALNUTRITION Malnutrition can result with excess in nutrients or vitamins, and more prevalent in America. Excess nutrients and vitamins can cause.. Obesity Vitamin poisoning Iron overload disorders

5 OBESITY Obesity is caused by too many calories to a point of overindulgence. Obesity can cause several health problems, such as diabetes, heart disease, and stroke. Other causes of obesity are linked to sleep deprivation, overeating, and heredity,

6 VITAMIN POISONING Vitamin poisoning is an excess of vitamins where it overloads ones body, and cause toxity symptoms such as hair loss, fatigue, and nerve damage.

7 IRON OVERLOAD DISORDERS Iron overload disorders are caused by overaccumilation of iron in the body. Organs that can be affected are the liver, heart, and endocrine glands in the mouth.

8 DEFICIENCY DISORDER Defiency disorders caused by malnutrition occurs when there are lack of vitamins and nutrients. Examples of defiency disorders are Anemia Rickets Osteoporosis

9 ANEMIA- DEFICIENCY DISORDER Anemia, can be caused by iron or vitamin deficiency. Anemia can cause fatigue, loss of energy, rapid heart beat, pale skin, and can lead to more serious conditions.

10 RICKETS- DEFICIENCY DISORDERS Rickets is a defective mineralization of bones caused by deficiency or impaired metabolism of vitamin D, phosphorus, and or calcium. Rickets can lead to fractures and deformity. Other symptoms include.. Bone tenderness Dental problems Muscle weaknesses Is one of the most frequent childhood diseases in developing countries.

11 OSTEOPOROSIS- DEFIENCY DISORDER Osteoporosis is a progressive bone disease that leads to decrease in bone mass and density. This can lead to an increased risk of fracture. Osteoporosis has no symptoms

12 PREVENTING MALNUTRITION ABROAD While malnutrition is more prevalent in underdeveloped countries, Americans are still affected. Ways of preventing malnutrition are Poverty reduction Improvements in basic healthcare Food insecurity reduction

13 PREVENTING MALNUTRITION IN THE US Malnutrition is more apparent in areas where poverty is more prevalent. Assistance in lower- income areas with healthcare, food, and sanitation can help prevent this in America. Along with a proper diet, and nutrition.

14 SOCIAL IMPACT Malnutrition is one of the top causes to childhood disease and death in undeveloped countries. Excess in vitamins, and nutrients cause obesity, which is the number one cause for death in the United States. Excess and/or lack of vitamins can lead to depression, stress, and can lead to other health issues.

15 CURRENT SOLUTIONS There have been several organizations dedicated to malnutrition awareness. These organizations provide proper nutrition to underdeveloped countries Attainable diet plans have been created to prevent excess of nutrients.
