1 REGIONAL TRANSPORTATION DISTRICT LIGHT RAIL SAFETY UPDATE March 17, 2015

2 What is a reportable accident? 2 Accidents involving a rail transit vehicle or taking place on rail transit- controlled property where one or more of the following occur will be reported to the CPUC by telephone within two hours of occurrence: A fatality at the scene; or where an individual is confirmed dead within thirty days of a rail transit-related incident. Injuries requiring immediate medical attention away from the scene for two or more individuals. Property damage to rail transit vehicles, non-rail transit vehicles, other rail transit property or facilities, and non-transit property that equals or exceeds $25,000. An evacuation due to life safety reasons. Collision at a grade crossing. Main-line derailment. Collision with an individual on a rail right of way. Collision between a rail transit vehicle and a second rail transit vehicle, or a rail transit non-revenue vehicle.

9 Rail Operator Training Add Footer Here9 5 weeks of combined classroom and hands on training with a Training Supervisor including: –Distracted operation reinforcing the SMITH driving system taught in bus training. (Aim High, Get the big picture, Keep your eyes moving, Make sure they see you, leave yourself an out) –Winter Operations –Yard / Shop specific safety related training with 1 week of hands-on operation in yard –Mainline training and vehicle operation addressing: Rulebook requirements, safe station operation, proper crossing procedures and Speed Limit and Signal rules Approximately 4 days of operation on the main line with an out of service vehicle 3 additional weeks with IN service trains 2 weeks with revenue instructors operating IN service trains –Training can be extended another week as needed. Continuation and refresher classes, Mandatory continuing education –2015 - 9 hour day course involving: 4 hours with MOW learning about their safety needs 4-5 hours classroom modules including the New Distracted Operation curriculum and Fatigue/ EAP related information Annual Certification ride checks and Follow-up corrective training as needed
