2 What is One-to-Global? One-to-Global is a district initiative designed to integrate technology into teaching and learning by providing each student with a Technology Device (Chromebook) to be used each day for engaging, innovative, challenging, and global learning.

3 One-to-Global Mission Mission The mission of Sumter School District is to equip students to be responsible, successful, and productive citizens in a global society. The mission of the One-to-Global Technology Initiative is to connect each student to the global opportunity of learning and to use innovation to engage and prepare students for the 21st Century.

4 The vision of One-to-Global is to transform traditional classroom instruction to an environment of innovative, global reaching, real world, critical thinking, and student centered learning. One-to-Global Vision

6 What is a Chromebook?

7 A personal computer running Chrome OS as its’ operating system Updates automatically when turned on and connected to the Internet Provides quick and easy access to the Internet Secure and easily managed Offers minimum risk of virus corruption Stores student files/information online W hat is a chromebook?

9 T eachers will be teaching using Technology. Students will be participating in a variety of activities. Flipped Classrooms/Blended Learning Project-based learning activities Formative Assessments Paperless classrooms Textbooks - online textbook access What can you expect in the classroom?

10 Chromebooks will be in protective cases instead of bags. Students in grades 3rd through 9th will have 1 to 1 Chromebook access. 3rd--5th will have a Chromebook in each classroom 6th--9th will be eligible to receive a Chromebook to use in class and at home. WHAT’S NEW FOR 2016-17!!

11 Middle/High School Students $20 User Fee will cover one accidental screen replacement and major repair. Parents may purchase the Major Repair Plan for an additional screen replacement and major repair. 6th--9th students are eligible to use their Chromebook over the summer with a refundable $100 deposit. 6th--9th grade students will be able to keep their Chromebook after three years of responsible usage. WHAT’S NEW FOR 2016-17!!

12 The purpose of digital citizenship is to prepare our students to be responsible users of technology. All students are expected to use the Chromebook, Internet, and Technology resources responsibly, according to teacher’s directions, and in accordance with the Sumter School District Acceptable Use Policy. Teachers will train students on digital citizenship at the beginning of the school year. Digital Citizenship

13 Students are responsible for the general care of the Chromebook. Middle/High school students are to bring their Chromebook to school every day charged. Chromebook is for educational purposes only! Only photos that are for an educational purpose should be saved to the device. No music or inappropriate media should be stored on the Chromebook. If the Chromebook is broken or fails to work properly, please return it to the Technology Manager at the school (usually the Media Specialist). Student Expectations

14 Chromebooks should never be stored in a vehicle. Only clean the screen with a soft, dry microfiber or anti-static cloth. Middle/High school students are responsible for securely storing their Chromebook during extra- curricular events. Elementary students may not decorate the Chromebook with stickers, tape, skins, etc. Student/Parent Expectations

15 The unique Sumter Students Login is the only way to gain access to the chromebooks. Other Gmail accounts will not work. Security & Login

16 Chromebook will be locked and rendered useless when reported stolen. All Chromebook are GPS tracked when logged on to WiFi/Internet. Middle/High school students will be issued a replacement Chromebook for theft verified by a police report or house fire. The Chromebook cannot be the only stolen device/property. Parents will be responsible for the lost/stolen/damage fee for student negligence. Damage/Replacement Policy

18 Middle schools who were One-to-Global reported a significant reduction in lost textbook fees because students accessed their textbooks online. Out of 6,000 Chromebook, only 450 came in for repair or service. Out of 3,500 Chromebook issued to students, only 3 were not recovered at the end of the school year. Teachers became more effective in integrating technology into teaching and learning. 2015-16 ONE TO GLOBAL SUCCESSES!!
