On November 20 th, Supreme Knight Announced this new initiative

Key Remarks from the Supreme Website: On November 20th, Supreme Knight Carl Anderson announced that, through the Order’s wide-reaching new Domestic Church initiative, Knights and their families will have greater opportunities to participate in a variety of activities that promote the New Evangelization, strengthen our parishes and grow the Order. Building the Domestic Church Knights of Columbus has always been an organization dedicated to the well-being and support of Catholic family life. The family is the first and primary place where we experience and are formed in our Catholic faith. By building upon our current programs and activities, the Knights of Columbus continues to promote the family as a ”domestic church” where husbands and wives, parent and children, grow in their knowledge and practice of the Catholic Faith. In order to perform its important mission of evangelization, each family needs to find support in the sacramental life of the parish. Strengthening our Parishes Knights of Columbus councils have always responded to the most urgent needs of the Church, particularly through charitable and social outreach. In order to support the evangelization of family life today, our councils must be even more fully integrated into our parishes. As the world’s largest Catholic fraternal and family organization, we have a responsibility to dedicate our time, talent and resources to ensuring that our parishes our beacons of the new evangelization.

Supreme Recruitment Strategies

Promoting Membership While every Knight is responsible for the growth of the Order, we need to show our programs are valuable within the Church & community. We need to publicize what we are accomplishing as a council in our communities and parishes We need to announce & share what we have done, are doing and will be doing; to make the Order something men & their families will want to be a part of.

Who are We Looking For? All eligible Practical Catholic men, 18 years of age and older We need to reconsider the term “practical” and “practicing”. Note: The final decision of “Practical Catholic” is to be determined by the Parish Priest We can all begin by Evangelizing to our lost Catholics – inviting/bringing them back to the Church.

Consider these groups: Former / Inactive Insurance Members Former / Inactive Insurance Members New RCIA members New RCIA members New-to-the-Parish families New-to-the-Parish families Husband and Wife Teams Husband and Wife Teams

Consider these groups too: Young members < 35 years of age Young members < 35 years of age Catholic Teachers Catholic Teachers Growing Ethnic Communities Growing Ethnic Communities

PREPARE TO RECRUIT

The Planner is a valuable tool! It identifies: Order-wide activities that your councils should be conducting, and important dates for your councils to file paperwork with the Supreme Council office. Use it to plan 1 st Degrees, record Council and Parish activities, etc...

Follow Up from Church Drives Host Follow up night with candidate and spouse Use Videos: “An Invitation”, “New Hope”; “The Experience of a Lifetime and “Founding to Future” Ensure Parish Priest and Field agent are present Then  Form 100

Candidates preparation from Church Drives Do Review by Council Admission Committee Schedule a 1 st degree (or more) within 1-2 weeks Take candidate to 1 st Degree Schedule a council charitable activity within two weeks to invite the person to get involved so they can see first hand what the council does.

Candidates become Members Take the member to the next Council Meeting. ASSIGN THE NEW MEMBER A MENTOR Talk about the “Shining Armor Award”.

Membership Retention The moment a Man (and his Family) joins the Knights of Columbus, is the moment we work to retain his membership. SO: Use the Admissions Committee to get a good understanding of the new member’s interests BEFORE he even joins the Order.

TEST DRIVE - program Program is Parishioner- driven, just a couple Knights involved.

Round Tables One Mother Parish + one small Parish + one man willing to be a liaison = ONE ROUND TABLE.

Council Development & Rejuvenation We have Councils that need assistance, support and guidance. Identify concerns to the Cluster Leaders for follow up, and help if able*.

???? Do you feel you have all the resources you need? Do you feel you have all the support you need? Is there anything else the State Board & its Directors can offer or provide to help you achieve these goals?

CLOSING THOUGHTS
