3 Some Statistics 2014/2015 1.3 million older people living in poverty in England. £3.7 billion of income-related benefits are unclaimed by pensioners in UK 2014/2015 Age UK in England identified £180m of unclaimed benefits. There are 850,000 people with dementia in the UK, with numbers set to rise to over 1 million by 2025. This will soar to 2 million by 2051

9 Guiding Principles Our beliefs – A world in which older people flourish is a world in which older people will: – Be equal citizens with equal rights – Have enough money for a secure and decent life, and have access as consumers to the products and services they need at a price they can afford

11 Products & Services Information & Advice – Free service at point of contact. Benefit advice, Housing, Care packages, Grants, Utilities advice 2014/2015 – Age UK Birmingham helped clients claim £600,000 financial benefit

12 Products & services Day centres – Oscott, Sutton Coldfield, Harborne – provide lunch club, keep fit classes, entertainment, Dementia care – Seymour care centre offers day-care for dementia suffers

13 The Seymour Hub

14 Therapy Pets as Therapy pooch Fluff Fluff joins us once a week for cuddles and treats. Dogs have proven to reduce agitation and increase pleasure just by their presence.

15 Therapy Shetland ponies visit once every two months. Pony therapy is known to have a positive effect and has also been noted by healthcare professionals as a positive therapy to aid in the reminiscence and communications of people living with dementia.

16 Product & Services Handyfix – carries out DIY jobs around the house and gardening Mobility aids Insurance – travel &Home Healthy Friends – Lottery funded project working with GPs in East Birmingham to support older people with chronic health conditions.

21 Next Action – if your interested Choose an area of interest to volunteer in. Complete an application form Visit our Kings Heath office with relevant DBS paperwork The volunteer Co-ordinator will provide a brief induction to Age UK Birmingham Specific training for your role will be given by the line managers responsible for each area.
