My target audience, as mentioned before, is young adults, aged around 18-25. due to their age considerations need to be made as to how best advertise the film to reach my target audience. Typical advertising such as newspaper articles and reviews wouldn’t work as the 21 st century has changed dramatically how the younger generation find out their information.

Push advertising would be my primary way to market my film. Social media would be the first way my film would be marketed. This is due to the fact that firstly it is cheap, because of the fact anyone can share trailers and posters on things such as Facebook and Twitter without being charged, and secondly social media is a very commonly used tool for my target audience with statistics in 2012 showing Sixty-one percent of adults under 30 reported that they used a social networking site at least once on a typical day.

Another form of pull advertising I'd use to pull my audience into viewing my film would be by setting up a viral advert to attract people to watch it. That is, like the social networking, a free way to advertise and is shown to be effective.

Push advertising would still be effective with my target audience. Television and radio are still things my target audience use regularly and so putting adverts on those would lead to more publicity. Also as it’s not just my target audience I want to reach, but a wider audience statistics show that globally 238,000,000 people watch television each day and evening too.

As my film is an independent film it doesn’t have any famous actors that would attract people to come and watch it. What it does have, however, is up and coming possible stars that, though they aren’t famous, could attract people who are interested in finding out about new talent before they because well known. My films unique selling point is the fact it is an independent low budget film that manages to pull of a consistently tense and interesting story line. It will have a sequel that will draw my audience in as it will end on a cliff hanger, therefore making it more appealing to the viewer. It will be a film that is going to be played at small independent British film festivals and if it wins awards it will become an even more attractive film that people want to view. As the film gets more well known the sequel may end up featuring famous people as they will have a bigger budget made from the first film meaning they can employ stars to act.

As a group we handed out our opening title sequence to our target audience to get feedback on different aspects of our film. We did this to try and understand why our target audience enjoyed our film and what aspects appealed to them most.

In relation to our genre our target audience thought it was conventional of a thriller for different reasons. Firstly the fact that the enigma of the characters were kept by keeping their identities secret throughout the sequence was typical of a thriller, mystery is a key part of thrillers. The lighting choices were also something the audience thought met the conventions. Low lighting was used in the whole of the sequence and the dark mysteriousness it bought to the scene was something the audience liked. A ‘McGuffin’ was something we used in our opening title sequence. The McGuffin we used was the box that was featured and the audience liked that as it met what the McGuffin was supposed to do which was to keep the story line moving.

Our audience thought different aspects of the Mis en scene were appropriate of a thriller genre. Firstly they said the costumes were effective as they are realistic every day clothing that make it clear the characters were teenagers. Also they liked the location as it fit the genre of thrillers well. This was due to the fact it ‘seemed scary and mysterious’. They said it was derelict and ‘felt like something shady was happening’. They were impressed that we managed to use such a professional location on a low budget.

When it came to the technical aspects of our film the music was something the audience thought was effective. The use of ‘tense music’ as our underline sound fit well with the genre of thriller. That joined with the fact that the audience liked the music volume increasing and decreasing when tense situations happened. The titles were described as ‘cool’ by audience members and were also said to fit the title well as they were basic and not serif font. When the box is picked up the titles move and that was viewed as professional. Finally sound effects were thought to be used well.
