2 Meeting Our Transport Challenges (MOTC) Meeting Our Transport Challenges (MOTC) sets out a strategic, long term and funded plan for Victoria’s transport system It is the biggest single transport investment program in Victoria’s history 25 year strategy, with $10.5 billion invested over the next 10 years for transport projects, including:  $8.8 billion for transport infrastructure projects  $1.7 billion for recurrent costs

3 Meeting Our Transport Challenges (MOTC) cont… $1.2 billion for Better Connections for Melbourne's Growing Suburbs, comprising major road duplications and widenings. $ 0.7 Billion for Major Upgrades of Regional Roads such as:  Midland Highway and South Gippsland Highway upgrades  Bass Highway Duplication  Barwon Heads Bridge Replacement

4 Meeting Our Transport Challenges (MOTC) cont… $900 million for Delivering a Better Link between the East & West of Melbourne, including:  Monash-City Link-West Gate Corridor Upgrade  West Gate Bridge Strengthening  The East-West needs assessment $1.1 billion to improve safety across Victoria’s network including the provision of safer level crossings across Melbourne (i.e. grade separation of some level crossings).

6 AusLink 1 AusLink 1 Projects Underway include:  Pakenham Bypass ($242M) – will be open to traffic in early December 2007  Deer Park Bypass ($331M) – 10 km, expected completion late 2009  Calder Highway Upgrade to Bendigo ($395M) – 42 km, expected completion early 2009  Geelong Ring Road ($380M) – 23 km, expected completion late 2008

7 National Transport Links – Growing Victoria’s Economy AusLink 2 will run from July 2009 to June 2014 The Commonwealth has committed $22.3 billion for AusLink 2 ($17 billion for construction projects) National Transport Links – Growing Victoria Together Released by the Victorian Government in July 2007 Sets out Victoria’s 30 Priority Road and Rail projects - $11.5 B

8 National Transport Links – Growing Victoria’s Economy Victoria’s Priority Road Projects Metropolitan Ring Road - Capacity Enhancements – from the Princes Fwy to Greensborough Hwy Western Highway – Upgrade:  Anthony’s Cutting - Realignment between Melton & Bacchus Marsh  Duplication between Ballarat & Stawall Calder Highway  Safety & Capacity Improvements – from Western Ring Road to Diggers Rest Goulburn Valley Highway  Bypasses at Nagambie and Shepparton Princes Highway East – Duplication between Traralgon & Sale Princes Highway West – Continuation of the Geelong Ring Road

9 National Transport Links – Growing Victoria’s Economy Victoria’s Priority Rail Projects  Webb Dock Rail Access (incl. an intermodal terminal)  Dynon-Port Rail Access  Third Rail Project - Melbourne to Dandenong  Upgrade East West Rail Line - Melbourne to SA border  Intermodal terminal development in regional Victoria and Melbourne

10 Key Messages  Minimising congestion during construction phase. Looking for innovation to ensure delays to road users are minimised.  What is designed and built needs to be maintainable – from a cost and safety perspective. Obligations on all designers now.
