Bring Your Own Device The Elementary Edition Bring Your Own Device Information for Teachers and Staff

What do I need to know? The district currently supports BYOD only at the secondary schools As a courtesy, elementary school teachers can use BYOD if it has been enabled for their building All teachers are free to use BYOD as much or as little as they see fit There is no district expectation that teachers use BYOD

Can students access BYOD? Because of support and network capacity issues, elementary students will not have access to BYOD in the 2012-13 school year.

Who gets what? Available at middle and high schools for students and teachers Available at some elementary schools for teachers only District-filtered wi-fi access to the Internet Teachers have the same access as if they were on the wired network (YouTube, etc.) No access to network storage or applications like Office

Who you gonna call? There is no support for any apps or applications on your devices by teachers or the district. The HelpDesk or building techs are NOT expected to support personal devices for you or students

Who's responsible? Bring devices at your own risk This means that if either teachers or students bring a device, they are responsible for keeping it safe and secure

How do I get on? Select the “BYOD” network on your device You won’t be able to connect to the others…really…give up now.

How do I get on? If you don’t see get this screen, open up a web browser on your device. (Safari, Firefox, Explorer) That will prompt this window. Use same username and password you would use to connect with a POC at school (Plain Old Computer) Username = ID# Password = password

How do I stay on? If you don’t use the network for a period of time, you will get timed out. But you can save your username and password so that you’re just ‘one click’ from connecting again. Again, teachers and staff cannot support your device if it doesn’t work. Ask a fellow student!

Good luck! Learn and share!
