2. What is a BYOD Program? BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) – in the K-12 context, refers to a program in which students can use their own personal wireless devices to support their learning in school and during the instructional day. This includes connecting to the Internet via wireless network

3. Who is involved in the LHHS BYOD Pilot? At the current time, grades 11 and 12 students will be involved in the BYOD pilot. Future plans would be to include further grades in the development of a BYOD program Pilot timelines: April – June 2012

4. What devices are involved in BYOD? Personal electronic devices include: – Tablet devices such as the iPad or Android tablets – Netbook and Laptop computers – Smart Phones with WiFi capacity, iPhone, Blackberry, Android, etc. – Other, iPod Touch, etc.

5. How will BYOD support my learning? Access to online resources Research Project Work Communication and Collaboration with Teachers and Peers Notes, etc.

7. Rules & Guidelines As with any educational program, there are rules and guidelines that have been developed to support your learning in safe and responsible manner

8. What rules or guidelines are associated with the BYOD Pilot? Responsible use of technology – this pilot is designed to support your learning, so appropriate use of technology is key It is expected that the school’s appropriate use of technology policy is adhered too as well as Department of Education Policy 311

LHHS BYOD Rules & Guidelines The use of personal electronic devices during the instructional day is to support student learning and educational activities The use of personal electronic devices in the classroom is at the discretion of teachers and the school administration Personal electronic device use at school must not disrupt the learning of others

10. More…Rules & Guidelines Inappropriate use of personal electronic devices during the instructional day may result in loss of privileges. In extreme circumstances, devices may be subject to search & seizure The School District and LHHS are not responsible for damaged, lost or stolen devices that students use in the BYOD pilot

11. Other BYOD Information Access to school WiFi is provided, this does not include access to NBED resources such as user drives, etc. School District IT is not responsible for setup, maintenance and repair to personal devices involved in this BYOD pilot

12. As a student, what do I need to do to support BYOD? Inform your parents of the BYOD pilot, rules and guidelines, etc. Adhere to the rules and guidelines established by your school, Principal and teachers Use your personal electronic device in the best possible way to support your academic learning

13. How do I connect to school WiFi? For computers Search for wireless networks Select NBED-Internet Select Connect Open your web browser

14. More… If you receive a certificate error, click on “Continue to this website” Enter your NBSS Username & Password

15. Other devices Search for wireless networks Select NBED-Internet Enter NBSS Username and Password Click on I agree button to connect Note: the connection procedure may look a bit different depending on the device, but you should be prompted as listed above
