4 Points on structure Structure creates an environment in which the decision making process is less cumbersome Takes less time to get things done Lesser bottlenecks Keeps us and members closer together Allows easier access for members to key decision makers Allows closer working relationships However, executive is tasked to work on everything limits progress across all activities

6 Points on structure Creation of working committees to focus on different aspects of the KNOC More involvement of sports people from outside the Olympic committee. Brings in more brain power, experience etc to the organisation

7 Staffing Secretary General Olympic Solidarity Officer SDO – Basketball SDO – Table Tennis SDO - Tennis Caretaker 6 staff members 3 admin staff 3 sports officers

8 Job Descriptions Secretary General Dual role SG/CEO for KNOC Day to day management of the office Responsible for the implementation of programs Responsible for Team Kiribati Outlined in the constitution Solidarity Accounts Officer Control/Monitoring of Olympic Solidarity funding General Accounting process within the organisation

9 Job Descriptions cont’d Sports Development Officer SDOs 3 currently – Basketball, Table Tennis, Tennis Responisble for developing sports in a specific area Work with development for young children starting from U12 Different programs but run within school terms Caretaker Cleanliness around office and looking after premises after hours.

10 Finance cont’d NOC is dependant on Olympic Solidarity for assistance Government funding is limited to international games related participation Private sector involvement is more of on an adhoc basis and irregular

11 Finance cont’d 2010 KNOC worked with around $100,000.00+ in funds from Olympic Solidarity World Programmes YOG Athletes Preparation Continental and Regional Games Preparation Admin Subsidy Continental Programs NOC Activities SDO Grant National Games Grants

12 Finance cont’d Which sport gets what? Based on NF budget submissions to KNOC KNOC Executive formulates what areas of funding it will cover and funding is based allocated amounts 1. Pre-games training – 18% of NOC Activities – 6 NFs How do they apply? In order to receive financial assistance members would need to submit project applications per activity based on standard application format

13 Team Kiribati NC 2011 Team size 40 participants Sports participating Athletics Boxing Weightlifting Taekwondo Selection process is done according to selection criteria Administrative Sports Specific Past performances National Championships Regional/International meets Potential for medals SG role – CDM Making all the necessary arrangements for Noumea.

14 Team Kiribati cont’d LOG 2012 Team size: 10 Athletes Athletic (2) Boxing (1) Weightlifting (1) Officials CDM & Attache SG role – support to CDM. Initial arrangements and then hand over to CDM

15 OlympOceania Not had the opportunity to utilise these funds. Land for office premises has not been confirmed from Government However, would like to use some funds for do up current office.

17 Weaknesses Sport is viewed as recreational activity 99% volunterism Centralised operations Cannot fully utilise Olympic Solidarity Non –documented policies Lack of fundraising activities (need a marketing strategy) RAT assessment: Need for redefinition of structure to sport NF operations More support from NOC in management, communication
