Changes to Regulation C – registration deadlines Adjusting advising practices Facilitating change to 120 credits Cooperative course registration procedure Vandal Friday best practices Updates from around campus Math placement English 101+095 reminder Chemistry 2 Overview

Rationale: Aligns drop and add deadlines with financial aid census date Encourages greater commitment among students to complete courses – discourages course shopping Improves process for all students (on campus and distance) Allows students access to course seats Improves accuracy of course planning 3 Regulation C

ActionDeadline Add, change variable credits, or change section online Through sixth day of the semester Late Course Add, change variable credits, or change section – paper form Seventh day through tenth day with instructor permission Drop Course onlineThrough tenth day of semester Withdraw Course online (drop with W) - $5 fee charged Eleventh day to the end of tenth week Change from credit to Audit – paper form Through tenth day with instructor permission Change from credit to Audit with W – paper form Eleventh day to end of tenth week with instructor permission Change from A-F grading to Pass/Fail – paper form Through tenth day with advisor/major professor permission Withdraw from University (see regulation G) – paper form First day of the semester through end of tenth week

Shortens drop period to ten days All drop and withdrawal activity online  Removes the advisor signature requirement Reporting Student Withdrawals Course roster to include a “W” to indicate a student withdrawal Reports of advisee withdrawals to be generated and disseminated among advisors 5

Notify advisees about this change  Effective fall 2012, students have two weeks to drop a class without a “W” Discourage course shopping among your advisees  Help them craft appropriate, manageable schedules  Gather information about popular electives in your program Clarify course sequences and degree requirements for all advisees 6

If a student…  …is pursuing two majors in the same degree (B.A. or B.S.) where both majors have moved to 120 credits  …updates the catalog year for only one program Then the student will be held to the 128 credit minimum for the other major Degree Audit will not catch this issue 10

Degree seeking students will now…  Be admitted to host campus through paper application (no application fee will be assessed)  Register using host campus software program (VandalWeb for WSU students, and ZZUSIS for UI students)  Be allowed to register after May 1  Be responsible for another email address  Pay special course and lab fees to host institution  Have pre-requisites checked by host institution 12

Co-op Courses will still…  Count for full-time enrollment status at home institution  Be considered as part of full-time tuition and fees Website designed to guide students and advisors through the process will be live Monday www.uidaho.edu/registrar/coop 13

Encourage students to have pre-requisites checked early so they don’t encounter registration problems  WSU is checking pre-reqs for the first time. Be patient. Remind students to check their new WSU email account  All co-op course correspondence will be sent to WSU email address 14

Make sure all first-year students plan an ISEM in fall or spring semester Changes to General Core Studies requirement  Currently awaiting approval from the faculty  New curriculum guides and information will be available once a decision has been made Vandal Friday pre-registration session PowerPoint will be available Monday on the advising website To view last year’s presentation, visit: http://www.uidaho.edu/admitted/registeringforclasses/howtovideos 15

What math should students take? 16

Math 160 is not the pre-requisite for Math 170. Students should not automatically enroll in the HIGHEST math course available based on their exam scores.  Many courses are terminal  May not provide prerequisite preparation for other courses Double majors should select a math course appropriate for both degree programs. Students should complete the Math, Stat, and Computer Science requirement during the first year. 17

Overrides are given only to students who satisfy the pre-requisites by: 1.Completing prerequisite course 2.Having sufficient exam scores A student can challenge exam scores with a COMPASS Math Test. Students who believe they would test into a course higher than Math 170 will need to contact the mathematics main office for evaluation. 18

English 101 + 095  Students who test out of 095 during the first week of 101 must drop the course online. No student is automatically dropped. Chemistry 253  Quantitative Analysis should be taken in a student’s sophomore year – not later. Many seniors are struggling in this course because they’ve forgotten fundamental chemistry. 19
