Welcome to Chromebooks! September 1, 2015 Please take a Chromebook from the charging cart and have a seat.

The Un-Fun Stuff Agenda Chromebook Guidelines Acceptable Use Policy

An opening… Video

A Connected Classroom? What exactly does this mean? Students “connect” with others beyond the four walls of your classroom: to students around the world, country, state, district, other classes in the building Ways to do this? Google Apps for Education (more to come) Google Hangouts Virtual Field Trips Guest Speakers Any way you can imagine integrating the outside world

What exactly is a Chromebook? What can it do? What can’t it do? How is it different from a desktop or laptop? What hardware features does it have?

Management Shaun! Usernames Passwords My class all had the same password. Will this work at all levels? Discussion Email & registering for websites (Prezi, eMaze, etc) When do we put in a Maintenance Request? Broken Chromebook/Screen????? Installing Apps Hapara issues

Chromebook Care

Charging Carts (Try to) Limit movement of students Neoprene cases Taking the Chromebooks home? No!

Some advice…. Set small, reachable goals Start with your comfort level- if you know how to use Microsoft Office, you are ahead of the game! Just like an initiative, it takes time! We need to rely on each other as a resource. Thoughts about sharing ideas? (Tech Teachers!) And the two most important trackpad functions are….

Google Account Education account allows access to all of Google’s free services Managed by Medford Schools Access anywhere that has internet. Works on: Computers Tablets Smart phones

Google Drive? What is it? How is similar to my H: drive? Different? Advice- folders, folders, folders! Help students organize their drives, they get messy too!

Google Apps for Education Entire suite of Google products available free to schools Is the heart of collaboration in your classroom Gives the ability to share documents between you and your students Wait, why can’t I find the “Save” button????? Let’s take a look at a Google DocGoogle Doc Let’s give this a try! Google Slides

Hapara Classroom Management Tool Two things I found it extremely useful for: “Spy” on the Chromebooks in your classroom File share to entire class or selected individuals More to come!

Google Drawing Great tool for projects and assignments. Some things I found it very useful for: Graphic Organizers Timelines Publishing Poetry Very user friendly and allows the students to be creative

Google Classroom Classroom Management Tool Separate from Hapara Lets see how it can be used!

Google Cloud Print A good way to print- when it is working properly After setup, printer will show up on students’ accounts no matter where they are Enables you to print from anywhere as well This may be something we will have to work with IT on if problems persist

Some Observations from my first year…. Be careful with Google +Google + Create an Excel File with your class’s account IDs (@medford.k12.nj.us)@medford.k12.nj.us Don’t bite off more than you can chew Ask the students for help! Give them opportunities to explore and try an open ended assignment to let them try things out HAVE FUN!!!
