All rights reserved. 2 of 7 Supporting information Guidance In order to carry out the activities, centres are advised that they may use manufactured fittings and accessories for both tray and trunking tasks. There is a wide range of bends available from wholesalers. At this level candidates are not required to manufacture fittings. Being able to measure and cut accurately, drill and bolt together will be sufficient

All rights reserved. 3 of 7 Supporting information Learning outcome 1 The learner will need to produce a work plan listing the sequence of activities required, health and safety, and the tools, equipment and materials required. They will be required to carry out all necessary preparations, within the scope of their responsibility. This will include preparing the work area and ensuring that it is in a safe condition to carry out the intended activities. A work plan is just what it says: a plan of the work to be done. Think very carefully about what is to be done, and what hazards there may be. Carry out a risk assessment, make a list of tools required and fill out a requisition form for the materials. Are there any special PPE requirements? Is there a need for barriers, additional lighting etc? See PowerPoint 2 for further information

All rights reserved. 4 of 7 Supporting information Learning outcome 2 When making electrical components the learner will be expected to use appropriate tools and equipment and to check that they are in a safe and usable condition prior to use. They will mark out the material for a range of features to be produced, and then use hand tools, portable power tools, and the appropriate fitting techniques to the type of material used and the operations being performed. These activities will include hand sawing, filing, drilling and threading. As mentioned in slide 1, learners may use manufactured tray and trunking fittings and these may be obtained from any electrical wholesaler. The type of tools etc will be seen in PowerPoint 3.

All rights reserved. 5 of 7 Supporting information Learning outcomes 3 & 4 The assembly activities will include the forming and assembly of metallic and/or non-metallic systems, and will cover the selection of the appropriate materials, cutting and bending/forming the appropriate pieces that make up the support system. The learner will also need to assemble the prepared pieces, using a range of connection devices, and to position, align and secure them in the correct locations, using the specified/appropriate techniques. Candidates should however carry out a visual inspection as listed in PowerPoint 5.
