Level 2 Unit 6 Application of Manufacturing Techniques in Engineering Engineering Diploma Level 2 Unit 6 Application of Manufacturing Techniques in Engineering In this unit you are going to get involved in engineering manufacturing activities, producing, as part of a team, a quantity of the same product. You will learn about production planning and scheduling and be responsible for setting up tools and equipment including CNC and preparing materials ready for production. In line with modern industrial practice, you will learn how to apply quality control during production and be able to record and interpret the resulting data.

Level 2 Unit 6 Application of Manufacturing Techniques in Engineering L2 U6 Learning Outcomes: Be able to work effectively in a production team and reflect on their performance Know about production information and how this is used to plan and schedule for manufacturing Be able to set up and use tools and CNC equipment safely to process materials Be able to apply appropriate quality control techniques and interpret quality data Next >

Level 2 Unit 6 Application of Manufacturing Techniques in Engineering Modern manufacturing techniques require a range of skills, so working in teams is essential. Good communication and effective meetings between team members is essential for the progress of projects. Successful and effective manufacturing requires careful, detailed planning. The ability to interpret engineering drawings and other production information is essential for good planning. Next > L2 U6 Content:

Level 2 Unit 6 Application of Manufacturing Techniques in Engineering Modern computer numerically controlled machines are very sophisticated. They are flexible in what they can make and with careful programming, can produce complex components. Quality control is a very important area of manufacture. Manufactured products need to be checked against specification and statistical analysis performed to ensure consistent production. Next > L2 U6 Content:

Level 2 Unit 6 Application of Manufacturing Techniques in Engineering Task 1 Demonstrate you can work as part of a production team and reflect on your performance. Team working ■ Work effectively as a member of a production team and write a short report in which you describe your role and identify your own strengths and weaknesses. ■ Explain how your contribution to the team affected the success of the planning production and quality control of the project. ■ Suggest ways that your contribution could have been improved, taking account of your strengths and weaknesses. Next >

Level 2 Unit 6 Application of Manufacturing Techniques in Engineering Task 2 To demonstrate that you can interpret production information and can produce a production plan and a schedule. Interpreting an engineering drawing ■ From the drawing, identify and describe four pieces of essential production information. ■ Interpret the information presented in the drawing and describe how it will be used when the production plan and schedule for the component are developed. Production planning ■ Write a production plan and schedule which take account of the following: materials, machine tools, cutting tools, timescales, sequence of machining operations, measuring equipment for quality purposes, QA documentation. ■ Include a schedule so that key milestones are included. You will be looking to produce documents which contain enough information for someone in a workshop to be able to produce the component by following your plan. Next >

Level 2 Unit 6 Application of Manufacturing Techniques in Engineering Task 3 Demonstrate you can set up and use tools and CNC equipment safely to process materials Using CNC equipment ■ You will use the component drawing and your production plan to create a program and enter it into a CNC machine. ■ You must work in an organised manner, keep the machine tidy and when you have finished work, clean it down and leave ready for the next person to use. ■ Each member of your team should take a turn at entering programme data into the machine. ■ Programming CNC machines is a complex skill and takes a long time to learn so for this task you may need some help. ■ Include a comment about what you might do differently in the future to improve the performance of the manufacturing operation. Next >

Level 2 Unit 6 Application of Manufacturing Techniques in Engineering Task 4 Demonstrate how to apply appropriate quality control techniques and interpret quality data. Quality control procedure ■ You will need to use measuring techniques to assess the quality of a sample of the parts you have produced. ■ You will perform a statistical analysis on the data collected and establish if the production run conforms to the specification. ■ You will then write a short report on the results of your inspection and analyse why the production was a success or failure and suggest how it could be improved. Next >

Level 2 Unit 6 Application of Manufacturing Techniques in Engineering End > Golf Tee Manufacture: You may be given a project to manufacture golf tees The CNC is used to make a mould The mould and injection moulder are used to manufacture plastic golf tees This project will enable you to meet all the learning outcomes of this unit: Work in a production team Know how production information is used to plan manufacturing Set up and use tools and CNC equipment Apply quality control
