2. 1. Joseph Stalin becomes the leader of the Soviet Union in 1928 and turned them into an industrial power. During his Great Purge he attacked other members of the Communist Party and killed religious leaders.

3. World War II Section 2 Notes 2. Stalin started a program known as collectivization, where the government took all farms from people and combined them and the government killed anybody who protested.

4. World War II Section 2 Notes 3. Benito Mussolini took over Italy as a fascist leader in 1919. Italy was mad because they gained no land even though they won WWI with the Allies.

5. World War II Section 2 Notes 4. Italy wanted to attempt to create an empire so they invaded Ethiopia both in 1935 & 1937. Mussolini’s supporters were called the black shirts because of the color of their uniforms.

6. World War II Section 2 Notes 5. Japan’s exports dropped because of the creation of artificial silk and the depression hit hard. The Military took over the government and started a totalitarian style government.
