3  Every sentence has two main parts: a subject and a predicate.  The subject tells who or what the sentence is about.  The predicate tells what the subject does or is

4  Subject examples: the sun, who, any name, place  Predicate Examples: rang, run, stomp, dance The sun shines brightly. Who rang the doorbell?

5  A group of words that does not express a complete thought is a fragment. Examples of fragments: The sun Rang the doorbell

6 The man suddenly disappeared. Remembered my name. Rachel leaped over the hurdle easily. The winner is Sheila. A large, noisy crowd.

7 The large chorus. Mario’s job at the movie theater. Heard a strange noise. The final race.

8 The airplane landed safely. Tyrone walked into the store. The police officer hurried to the accident. My car makes a strange noise.

9 There are 4 kind of sentences. A declarative sentence tells what someone or something is or does. Example: Our team won the game. An interrogative sentence asks a question Example: Who won the game?

10 An imperative sentence gives a command or makes a request. It usually ends with a period. It may end with an exclamation mark. Examples: Please buy the tickets now. Get the tickets now!

11 An exclamatory sentence shows strong feeling. It ends with an exclamation point. Example: That was the best game of the season.
