2 Descriptive essay The descriptive essay provides details about how something looks, feels, tastes, smells, makes one feel, or sounds. 6 Essay Format 1. Introduction: It introduces what you are talking about and provides the reader with interesting facts and gives background information. 2. Thesis statement/grabber statement: This grabs the readers attention and is most commonly placed as the last sentence in the introduction paragraph. 3. Middle paragraphs: Each middle paragraph explains a main idea that supports the thesis statement. How many middle paragraphs do you think there needs to be in between the introduction and conclusion?

7 Essay Format 4. Conclusion: Will remind the reader of the thesis statement and restate the main ideas mentioned in the middle paragraphs. It will wrap up the essay and summarize what was discussed.

9 Read: “The Frisbee Disc” Highlight or underline something that looks important to you! Look at these questions as you read: What are the author’s main points? What evidence or support did the author provide in support of his or her main points? Summarize the essay in one or two sentences. What question (s) would you ask the author if you had a chance to interview them?
